i know u don't have to take them urself, my point was where you said they were irelevant but if he won some of the penalties himself it proves that hes is dangerous and effective rather than you just writing of some of the goals he scored just because they were penalties, and for the record theres nothing wrong with scoring penalties
There's nothing wrong with scoring them, but it's not a skill that's relevant to finding a striker. Being fouled in the box is, but that's got nothing to do with who kicks the penalty itself. And as I said, since they're converted at a ridiculously high rate, and teams use a variety of different people to be penalty takers, it's not a skill needed in a striker.

For our style Shaq could quite easily turn out to be more effective than Soldado.

That would literally improve our striking situation from last season.

I am in no way suggesting we don't need another striker/WF just sayin init :carrollwtf:

If we don't count penalties, do we count one on ones with the keeper? Free headers from inside the box? Goals against shite defences? Free kicks against crappy walls?

Penalties are pretty fucking important. As Roberto Baggio, Martin Palermo, etc.
They aren't a skill relevant to a striker though. One on ones are, because the player had to create that space and situation. Converting from the spot after someone else fell over in the box isn't something that only strikers can do. Any idiot can,and does, which is why clubs don't factor it in.

They are not a measure of a striker's qualities. Full Stop. There are teams that have the keeper as the designated penalty taker. It's a free kick from close range with no defence. It's a skill any idiot can do, which is why clubs don't factor them in when comparing strikers.

This lays it out better than I can:

Being able to hold your nerve, deal with pressure, have the confidence to take a pen. These are all qualities I like in a striker.
Pens definitely count.

Not to mention that strikers will often be the ones to earn the penalties in the first place... so their speed, trickery, and footwork can also be reflected in their penalty numbers.
(We'll exclude diving for argument's sake)

I think you are wrong.

I believe penalties count as a test of nerve, skill and precision. If they were that easy, nobody would ever miss.

Windy thoroughly pooh poohed this idea the other day.

Windy may be correct, he might not be capable of playing at a high enough level for the first team, but neither are Soldado or Adebayor at the moment. They at least were more than good enough during their peak.

I suspect Poch is taking him to America because Spurs are short up front at the moment until they buy a new striker or two. Shaq might have improved in the last few months which is a fact that could be missed by our resident youth voyeur Windy.

The thought of Mason and Bentaleb in midfield against Schweini, Schneiderlin, Mata, etc terrifies me. It's gonna be a long afternoon come 8th August if we don't sign a DM.

Another person comparing a team that spend £300 million and are aiming for the title with us :chadliblow:

Are we competing for the title? Have we spent anywhere near that amount? Are United Rivals? No, no and no. It shouldn't be a surprise if we lose, it should be expected and we shouldn't base our season around that.

Our season depends on wins against Crystal Palace and Stoke, more so than against United.

ESPN are usually better than most when it comes to transfer reports. They're not the first ones to the party, but you can usually count on them for reliability.

What's everyone's 48 hour window obsession?

Oh god, I really feel a sense of doom over this coming season if that is any kind of solution :sherwoodwtf: the problem is that Levy has form and we could actually be that fucking dumb
I guess this forum is in Pre-season Melt form, too.
Wed's game is a Pre-season game. An EXHIBITION. We will have extra players and likely rotate many thru the game. There are 2 Strikers for Wed's game - that does not mean they are the only strikers that will be on the squad for the season. At worst case, if Levy does not sign a striker, we do not sell Soldado. No one wants that and Levy will get a new player in. If not, then we can all melt together in Sept.

n how many ''idiots'' have we seen miss them, its not as easy as you seem to think. were not signing him because he can take penalties, the fact he can is just a little bonus
