Transfers Summer 2016 Transfer Window Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Didn't Klopp mention that Sturridge seemed to have a very low pain threshold? He's very talented, but never fit, and if he's not able to stay fit, he's of little use. Better to get someone else without the premium price and ridiculous history of injuries.

Klopp basically, indirectly, called him a lazy pussy, by saying he needed to learn the difference between being in pain from working hard and being injured.

Poch is something special when it comes to making people flourish, no doubt. But he's no magician. He's making players with the right attitude to let him make them flourish do so. If he could make someone flourish just because, then Ade would still be here.

Also, Sturridge is excellent in some aspects of the game. Even world class as I've already said. Those are mostly, when he's on the ball, though. Unfortunately, that's not enough for anyone coming into our team. The next time you watch Sturridge play, keep an eye on him when he hasn't got the ball. See how (little) he works, how he positions himself both when defending and attacking, then compare it to our current players, and tell me, if you honestly still think, he's excellent.
Apparently being forthright = attitude. Has any of his managers or colleagues ever come out and confirmed this?

In regards to your reservations on his attributes, that's where Poch comes in.

He's not my first choice, nor my first three. But would I be happy to get him? Absolutely.

Pochettino has barely made Dembele overcome his injury problems and Sturridge is a lot worse. It wouldn't surprise me if Dembele still feels pain every now and then and is heavily iced after matches etc.

I really rate Sturridge, I think when fit he is one of the best around in the league - but his injury problems won't help us and we can't help him.

More often than not, there seems to be an understanding among footballers and managers not to badmouth each other. We all know Paulinho and Ade had shit attitudes, but I can't recall anyone outright saying so.

In any case, it isn't attitude, as much as it's application, and comments from managers or players aren't needed for to assess that. Like I said, it's my claim that anyone watching football matches not just "where the ball is" but looking at players application and positioning will see that Sturridge, while he would be a brilliant player for many a team, is simply too lazy and frankly tactically inept for us.

Bit of a cynical way of viewing things, but the sooner we have CL completely guaranteed, the better in terms of wrapping up the transfers that we're clearly working on.

I think it's looking more and more like Batshauyi is our number 1 target - being name checked by Poch is a pretty massive sign in that regard.

As silly as it might sound, having an extra week or two where CL is 'in the bag' would probably go a long way to help the player commit to joining us and signing on the dotted line as soon as the window opens.
It may not be as simple as that.
What with the Euro's it's vital to sort out the transfer we want before then. Agents can influence them to hold out. Also, the clubs may not be as willing to sell. I mean Batshuayi just signed a contact extension until 2020. Marseille will probably hold out for the highest bid after the Euro's.
All it takes is for a couple of our targets to shine and the fee goes up

You're exactly right. And it's of particular concern when the player's nation is likely to go far in the competition (which, in Batshuayi's case, Belgium most definitely is).

So yeah, another reason it'd be great to get our ducks lined up in a row.

I would have taken him in the past, but his injury record is no longer just a worry anymore, it's alarming.

Poch demands total commitment, and total fitness. Sturridge is made of glass, and he's on a rumored 120k per week. Pass.

When you think of the career he might have had bar injuries.
The God bods make me laugh.
He has come out and said that it's God's plan for him to suffer those setbacks.
Why does he not think that God is a right cunt for putting him through that bollocks and setting back his career. Especially as he has done nothing to deserve his wrath and devoted his life to worshiping the spiteful cunt.

How can people even suggest Sturridge?

Lets asses the information we know

Sturridge gets injured a hell of a lot. Sometimes for 6 months at a time.

Sturridge is not the fittest player, by any stretch.

Poch's training regime is incredibly tough

Poch's tactics require you to be extremely fit and willing to close down

The training regime would injure Sturridge. Even if it didn't injure him, he wouldn't fit into the play style. And even if he was willing to close down, he'd likely to be injured.

He's a cotton wool type player, like King. You wrap him up, don't let him train much and try to keep him fit. We can't carry someone like that.

A vocal and experienced midfielder which we can bring off the bench to calm the players down in tense situation.

Agree strongly on this one... And not just because of tonight's game, I think we've needed it in a few games this year when we need to close a game down. Got a lot of young heads in this team that could do with a bit of guidance from someone who has been there, seen it, done it. Look at the impact Cambiasso had at Leicester, Davids had with us, etc. Experience counts for a lot. Can't really think of any prime targets though

Thought exactly the same thing this evening.

I swear, you could probably map the aggression shown by our players against Chelsea to their age, and you'd get a pretty strong correlation of the younger ones losing it.

Can you imagine tonight if Alli had been eligible to play?!
