I think they kept that stand that's why it's such an odd shape and has huge gaps at that end. They just removed the lower tier.
Also why it was so cheap is becuase the building company wanted the land in the centre of Madrid to develop and Atletico were £500m in debt.
So they got it, and in return for the old stadium land they would build Atletico a stadium at basically cost.
Didn't the fans go mad about the 12 mile move and challenge the building company saying it was illegal for them to build anything higher than 4 floors in Madrid city centre.
Took it to court.
Would have meant FCC, the building company, losing a lot of projected revenue and make the move doubtful, as Atletico couldn't afford the build.
.....delays, no olympics again, Calderon site value falling FCC bailing, building costs rising
Wanda injecting money for naming rights then approach some billionaire from Mexico for a loan of about £150m

Ps lots of controversy and lots of debt surrounding the build just reading
Also the Mexican wants his loan repaid quick at the risk of gaining control of the clubs shares
That could well be true, I know they're getting a shitload for the current site and it was going to get AM out of a financial hole.

I hadn't heard about the fans protesting tho, I was under the impression they were cool with it. Not like it was their spiritual home or anything. From the mid-20s to the mid 60s they played here, the Estadio Metropolitano, which is nearish to the Santiago Bernabeu...

This pic gives you a good idea how they've moved about the city...

One group of people who will be thankful to see them go are my in laws who live literally in front of the Calderon, just over the river :)

Souness the man who turned his back on the Liverpool model and tried to do a rangers with them. Spent bundles and did what? One fa cup Some could argue that Liverpool haven't been the same since
Then weasels out the of any responsibility in his book
Compared to us lot who have never played for or managed a team in the top division in england.
He knows far more than anyone on here does about professional football.

No one mentioned those projects. Juventus and Atletico were specifically brought up.
No, I mentioned those projects as examples of stadium expansions. The Atleti project is essentially a new build. You said it was "not being built from the ground up", it quite clearly is.

It was an abandoned site which has been 90% rebuilt. You won't find a single person in Madrid who considers it a "stadium expansion".

Still, you probably know best

Interesting that you've put in quote marks something I didn't say. Your quotation must be someone else.

To be honest mate, your probably one of the most abusive posters yourself, in your subtle, snidey, little way. I think you just don't realise it
Fancy answering the question? It's ok to just admit you're a hypocrite.

Shall we go back through our exchanges and see out of you or I who has descended to name calling and the like first?

It's always everyone else, John. Conspiracy and everyone else. All against poor old John. Grow up '' mate''.

How is it silly? Celtic just won their 6th straight SPL title and went undefeated and did not blow the bank.

Our are we doing the "only the premier league matters" thing?
I think the 12 funnies he got tells you why.

But here goes. SPL & EPL aren't good comparisons for obvious reasons.
Celtic would not win the title if they were in the premiership. They would have to spend to compete better.
Celtic do spend big compared to other SPL teams. I would assume they are the biggest spenders in total on fees & wages. at least top 3!
You may as well say the champions of Luxembourg (probably Luxembourg city city) won titles & didn't spend big.

I've been chilled all window and that's one of the very few negative posts I've made. And even that was balanced with positive aspects. The vast majority have been in defence of our policy and against "knee jerking".

If ur on here enough u get to know who leans which way on transfers / levy / Poch / players and who regularly slates certain aspects of the club.

I suggest u wind ur neck in a bit before picking arguments with people that likely have the same views as you for the most part. It's unnecessarily antagonistic.

With all due respect, that's no quite true nor fair.... It's perfectly reasonable to respond to a post on face value. Especially rather than pander to some preconceived notion of what a poster may or may not 'actually' be like... That shit just gives birth to clique-like scenarios where some are given more grace than another. Better idea... Expect to be taken on face value and post with conviction and a degree of reservation to start with.

...Regardless, if you're indeed 'that man', then maybe you can equally see why I would object to your original assertion and maybe opt to calmly explain to me how we are a "Parody" rather than lecturing me on forum etiquette.
