Good point but I think we have seen, mostly last season that there are times when a drop in our quality is that miniscule difference between success and an insufferable near miss.

I would hate for us and Pochettino to become the new Woolwich, settling for player development and caution over a willingness to go for a couple of big name stars, with a bit of all round baggage that they bring.

And I refer back to my point of a couple of days ago that our squad as it stands cannot compete on 4 fronts in an effective way and this season we need to at least be in touching distance of a trophy. Minimum requirement I would say.
This assumption that we intend to compete on 4 fronts is incorrect.

Onomah has been more highly rated than winks throughout pretty much all of their academy careers. He's just been played out of position at senior level, unfortunately.

Cheers. From what we see for spurs you would think it was the other way around.
But the out of position thing clears that up. I Look forward to seeing him in his best position then.

I'd totally written him off last season. He's never a wide forward or number 10.

He played deep CM for under 20s and absolutely bossed it. Obviously it wasn't senior football but you could see he's more comfortable there and has the right attributes.
Yeah, you can't fairly judge a player until they have been played in their best position.

Out of interest who do you want?

"A signing" means very little......Rasiak? Ronaldo? Or doesn't it matter as long as we spend some money?

Personally i feel a back-up striker to Harry would be great for the club, i don't rate Janssen very highly, and i think we could be in trouble if for example Harry is out for 3-6 months. However Janssen has only had the one season so far, he may be great, he is only 23 after all.

I like Moussa Dembele from Celtic, and think signing him could be realistic for us, he's played in England before scoring 17 goals for Fulham in the Championship, last season he scored 32 for Celtic and got Champions League experience.

And to answer your question "doesn't it matter as long as we spend some money?" - I see no need to spend on players we do not need, so no im not looking for Spurs to spend for the sake of it.

How about you sammyspurs, anyone you would like to see come in?

Are there any highly rated youngsters in the championship or league 1 that poch could work his magic on?
Or from any of those young england teams that did well & who aren't already at a big club of course.

I wouldn't be surprised if we sign a youngster or 2 in the next few weeks.

Here's some footage of Onomah from the U20 world cup this summer. He seems like a completely different player when played in his preferred position. There's a difference between U20 football and the PL but he's definitely worth trying out in CM

Good shout, i like Ryan Sessegnon at Fulham, however he has literally just signed a new contract.

There must be others!

I'm obviously biased due to nationality but I would really like it if Tottenham signed a young Swedish player and developed him. I don't think we've had a Swede since Ekman if my memory serves me right.

Someone like Sam Larsson could become something under Poch.

I hope you are both right, and I need to look back at what he did with England this summer. Poch's faith in him seems high, but he's always looked bad when in a Spurs shirt.

And sorry, what's his natural position? CM? Like Dembele (for lack of my brain thinking of a better comparison)?
Yes CM. Dembeles sort of role. He's not an out and out DM but does break up play well and can drive forward with the ball.

He's probably closer to a Wanyama than a Dembele. Probably sits somewhere in the middle (in terms of style I mean not ability!)

The only thing I'd question is why didn't Poch trust him in CM like he did Winks? Perhaps it's simply because Winks is older and further along in his development.

Dembele would cost an insane amount I imagine.

I think someone posted a good compilation clip from the U20 tournament on the onomah thread. Worth a look.
