Signing Toby to huge wages is a money saving move?

2 things on this whole Roma/Toby thing;

1. We should be telling Roma and Baldini to get to fuck if they even try and sign him for less than the release clause. 25 million is hardly earth shattering. Pay up or shut up.

2. Why oh why would Toby be even slightly interested in going to Roma anyway? Champions League? Nope. Competing for trophies? Pretty much nope. Pay? I would say there is no chance they are offering higher wages than we have offered him over the last number of years. Location? I guess you could argue this perhaps, but Toby is in his prime as a centre half. He should be aiming much, much higher IMO.

It's unlikely he would go there if they weren't offering higher wages....why else would he?

Perhaps in the Premier League he only has another good 2-3 seasons left in him, whereas that might stretch to 5-6+ in Italy.
So the lower salaries he is supposedly considering could be over 2-3 times the duration.
Maybe it makes more sense to hedge your bets and take a longer 'decent' deal?

He's not wrong but the problem is how do you sell Ozil? You'd have to make it up on the difference between their salary requirements, but Ozil will want everything owed to him. They are screwed whatever they do with him.

Is the question not why aren't we all over it FFS?

We know Woolwich are strapped somewhat and that Chelsea are snookered.

Liverpool may stick to an extent and Spendiola will only get a couple in.

We are in prime position but are in fear of our shadow.

Or maybe Pochettimo thinks Lamela is a better option.

is there a possibility that toby will be sent on loan by roma with an option to buy...to a club that wont deal with levy...roma get paid toby gets paid and plays for the big team he seems to want

Alderweireld hss most likely had his best days.

No need circumvent Levy for a relatively small 25 million pounds.

More likely the clubs who would have dealt when he was 28 are happier to now say pass.

Yes, exactly that. He'd only pay 15% tax on his wages so it could be a factor in him taking less from Roma than what we are offering/offered.
I googled English tax rates and it looks like you pay 45% on everything over 150,000 pounds per year. Now, if you make 100,000 per week, that is 5.2 million for a year. If you only pay 15% in Italy that is a 30% savings, or around 1.5 million more in your account. Might be worth considering.
