When a player like grealish is supposedly 60mil you just know we aren't gonna pay the prices for players that would actually improve this team

If Grealish really has signed a deal with a £60m buy out clause when he'd currently only have 12 months left of his previous deal whilst playing for a Championship club he needs his head checking.

If there's a buyout I doubt very much it's at the £60m figure being reported but stranger things have happened.

There is a bubble at the moment, particularly in English football. so it's not impossible. When you have 3 Championship clubs approaching 200% of revenue for their wage bills, and mid-table clubs being run reliant on owner spending (Leicester), it's not hard to realize that player values will go a little crazy. At the same time, you need to pay what you need to pay in order to maintain the squad's quality. Levy has shown he will back Pochettino, and the two of them, by not being more proactive like Dortmund or Lyon, will have to aggressively swallow the costs that it will take this summer.

If Toby goes if we could sign Godin the that would be unbelievable.

Afew years back he was THEE best centre back in the world when everyone was creaming over Ramos & Pique.

Defensively he has always been better than them

Got some solid ITK, apparently poch has a war chest at his disposal for this window, hearing it’s around the £250 million mark , apparently poch invested last seasons budget in crypto currency and made a fortune and levy has let him keep it all for this window ! Glad I could share this good news with all my fellow yids!

Yeah, I think this is just about perfect. I would just add a couple things

1. It bears repeating, the two best signings we can make this offseason are Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen. If we lose those players we will pay extensively in either replacement costs or lost points (which ARE financial assets, that IS a real fiscal cost), or both. The cheapest option is almost certainly meeting their wage demands.

2. With Vorm leaving we need a homegrown GK to take that spot, and I'm not sure our youth ranks can provide one at the moment.

3. In general, we need to sort out our squad nationality construction situation.
I think number 3. could add fuel to the fire of potentially selling Dier. He already looked like he had regressed from his best season but the guy was a complete mess against Bournemouth. Mitigating factors re: his appendicitis and tonsillitis could give him a pass.

Oh, and I forgot to mention Lamela. He's on the 'painful' outgoings list for me, as we can't go on like this with the number of games missed through injury.

Nothing to base this on other than a hunch, but I'd guess there was a gentleman's agreement that he could go for a fair price this summer if Aston Villa fail to get promoted.

I don't disagree with your "painful" outgoings concept, but it also may be wise not to shake up the squad TOO much, especially if Toby and/or Eriksen go.

A nice long summer break, with probably a minimum of international commitments among our squad, may be able to work wonders.

Indeed. I pray we primarily focus on essential business and remember that this isnt the last trf window evvvaar.

Yeh we made a rod for our back the last 2 windows but with a bit of r&r the squad still has a damn sight more to give than we've seen in recent weeks.
