Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I do find it weird that anyone can actually watch football and not rate Winks. Let alone Spurs fans who actually watch him every week.
Agree with you on this.

Winks is class imo. Positionally very good, can pick a pass, doesn't get bullied off the ball, good energy. I Guess his onky weakness is that he could chip in with a few more goals but that's not his game.

I'm actually a bit confused about what i want this summer because i think4-3-3 Is the way to go for us moving forward. That means I would really want us to bring in a top class wide forward. That being said i really like the look of Lo Celso and I don't think we will get him and N'dombele (I think N'dombele is a must have signing)

------------------Winks------------------
---------N'dombele----Alli--------------
--Zaha---------------------------Son-----
-------------------Kane-------------------

Or

-------------------Winks------------------
-------N'Dombele-----Lo Celso-------
--------------------Alli--------------------
--------------Son-------Kane------------

Winks is good at keeping the ball moving, but he not good at defending & he doesn't see a killer pass, playing in his position he needs to be able to add either defending or killer pass to his skill set

I think he's a better tackler than he gets credit for.

And where he's elite is maintaining the team's possession under pressure.

Put him in front of the back four and stick a dynamic line-splitting athlete like Sissoko or Ndombele alongside/ahead of him and you've got a platform on which the rest of the squad can dominate in the way they did when Wanyama and Dembele were forming a similar axis a couple of years ago.

4-2-3-1 is the way to go, still.

Would rather see our hattrick hero Moura occupy the starting spot than Zaha, I just don’t see the appeal in him at the price they are asking for.

Just my opinion but I think levy will happily see winks and Sissoko as our midfield for next season . Probably give Poch a couple of back up options around the 15 million mark . But that’s it

Anybody thinking we will be spending 40 million upwards on players are going to be seriously disappointed

He isn't a defensive midfielder though and the defensive side of his game improved massively by the end of the season and his whole role had been to screen the defence and pass the ball to Eriksen who can find the killer pass or to Sissoko to move the ball upfield

Get a DM behind him and a decent central midfield partner and people will wonder where this Winks had been all along.

DM
Ndombele - Winks
Would be superb going into next season.

I think we miss(ed) the solidity of a pure DM, be that 4231 or 433. (see goals conceeded)

Much like last few windows , questionmarks ultimately hang over Poch's ideal formation. However:

#8: Winks/Sissoko/N'Dombele/LoCelso/(Dele?)

+ Dier

....Suggests we need an extra DM in our ranks regardless of formation.

The numbers have just inflated in line with the increase in revenues.

Well, Winks can't be our only player in that spot, certainly, not least of which because of his history of fitness issues.

But I think we've played some of our best football of the last two years with him in that DM spot. He's also individually a better fit there, because as others have pointed out, the attacking third is not where his strengths are.

We've gotta figure it all out. Is Dier the CB replacement for Toby? Is Wanyama finished? Can Eriksen's replacement deputize deeper in the midfield in certain situations like he does? It's all quite fluid. But I would be looking at Winks as a piece to build the rest around.

Largely agree. i just don't think Winks is a pure DM... Prior to this year Winks would have had Dembele, Vic, Dier or Moose alongside him bringing the beef and as said this year we've leaked many more goals.

To reiterate:

#8: Winks/Sissoko/N'Dombele/LoCelso/(Dele?)

#6: Dier

Winks definitely can play the DM role. I would play him as a Dm moving forward and not a box to box as he simply won't be able to contribute in terms of goals.
