All these links with Bruno now. Would he be signed instead of Lo Celso? They play a similar roll do they not? I haven’t watched either of them. Anyone have a preference?

Not sure Dier improves United at all.

Especially not their starting eleven. He's probably better than Phil Jones as a centre half so a nice place on their bench but he isn't better than Bailly and he isn't better than Lindelof.
I’d sell Dier but only for the right price. He is still a player we use more often than not. If we do sell then I think we need to bring in 3 new midfielders.

Lo Celso, NDombele and Tielemans :levywhoa:

I'm not sure we do.

If he leaves and we sign two central midfielders, it leaves us with:

Winks, New CM, New CM, Wanyama, Dele, Sissoko, Skipp.

Now if we sell Wanyama too, then sure, get another one in.

But even if Dier stays, I don't want to see him ever play central midfield again, unless we have about 5 players out injured in that position.

Dele has been less effective out on the left than when he's been played in the centre as a no 10 ( and Poch cannot play him there whilst Eriksen is here)

Dele is a different player than Eriksen but with Lo Celso, Winks and Ndomble all capable of passing balls through from cm we would not lack for creativity.

Would also mean that an upgrade in full backs to speedier more creative types isn't essential this TW - upgrade may be desirable but not essential.
So if I read this correctly are yuo suggesting that Dele shouldn't be shoehorned into the side should we get Ndombele and GLC?

I think Lo Celso would be favourite - had an excellent game last night v Nicaragua (although its an easy game good one to showcase his talents) playing both as am AM/winger in the first half and more as a CM in the 2nd half, involved with some incisive passes for 2 goals etc. in the AM role. Easy game but looked versatile and good

I'm not sure if Fernandes is our back up choice for Lo Celso or if we would sign them both - if we don't need to replace CB's this TW, I think Poch/Levy would be happy to enlarge the squad by a player or two so getting both (and NDombele) makes sense.

We need to keep Dier. He's a utility player that can provide cover and CM, CB and RB and he's decent. He had a pretty shitty season but so did most of our squad to be fair (which says a lot about how good we can be if we can reach a CL final and top 4 after playing poorly).

Add to that the fact that he's only 25, is yet to reach his prime and starts regularly for the national team and it would be daft to get rid of him.

He's probably worth £35m in this market. He's worth a lot more to us than that.

I think Dele and Son behind Kane with a CM of Winks, NDomebele and Fernandes (if both come) would work well without needing to shoehorn Dele in - imo he's better as a 10 than as LAM.

But if we play 50-60 games again this season, plenty of scope to rotate players

We have Skipp and Amos to cover anything Dier can do in midfield and Foyth can cover what he does at centre half and right back. We can sell Dier without any worries at all

Can you point to me where Poch and Dier have said he has gone backwards?
Would it get you to amend you perspective if I did? I don't think it would because if you haven't seen it thus far in his play then you don't wanna see it. Neither made the statement that he's gone 'backwards'. It was more 'he had a tough year'. but you can read between the lines on that.

In Poch's book I believe and Dier's quote in articles he was honest about his season after the Mou incident...which was a season after the season in which he was fucking horrible and many saw it but the defenders/the masses/the FAB were up in arms when anyone pointed it out. He hasn't been the same since. I bet you thought I wasn't gonna be able to come up with the goods didn't ya? 5 second google because the info was out there if you wanted to see it. You can look up the Poch stuff in his book yourself but I don't think I need to provide evidence beyond the very player saying it himself.

Beyond that he wasn't actually 'good enough' at DM his first year. He played beyond everyone's expectations after the position shift so there was promise. He actually hasn't improved from there in any way so the mere fact of him starting in our MF is a horribly regressive thought.
