If no-one showed any interest in signing him, psg will of course have moved him on. If a club other than betis showed any sign of interest, he would have gone to the highest bidder.
Not really, it was all in the contract that they could make him a permanent signing for just £19m if they wanted to, which they did in April. It's irrelevant how many other clubs were interested at the time.

There's no way the selling club would rid their hands of an asset at a lower price than would be available.

The fact that no-one else bid for him, he failed at psg and he signed for betis should send alarm bells.

Then again, mo salah and kevin de bruyne did something similar, there's still hope for the lad to turn out fine.

Isn't it telling though, that no-one else was interested in him in April though?

NDombele is the same. We could have signed him last summer.
it was a legally binding contract - most are, there are countless examples where the club with the right to buy enforce it. Toby was an exception as Atletico had a clause that is not common, its sensible to assume its not present unless told otherwise.

Same with NDombele, 8M option.

its the reason why the buying club may insist on it, the selling club normally set it higher than they would get if they were to sell before he loan. The buying club are paying extra for the option.

That's the same as the £8m Southampton agreed to with athletico though mate. That is, until another club bid higher than £8m. Next thing you know there's a clause that allows athletico a buy out of £2m.

There's no way of knowing whether psg would have done the same if there were other clubs involved.

I find it bizarre that this is hasn't really been linked with anyone, seems to have all the raw traits required. A chip on his shoulder perhaps?

no its not - that clause is very rare, in that case unless you know otherwise you assume it wasn't there rather than it was.

Lo Celso was actually quite good at PSG, they are just a shitshow with a horrible decision making team. Now you do bring up a great point in that we had a scouting failure (or some kind of failure) to not bring him in for loan last year.

Ndombele, who knows but there were reports of offers from a number of clubs going in for him last summer but Lyon turning them down. I think they just wanted to keep him or the player wanted to stay there.

We're going round in circles. Thanks for responding and debating. We should probably leave the thread to cunt offs lol (which we didn't have so I'm sure we dissapointed a fair few)

If we wanted to sign either player last summer, we would have.

We couldn't sign either player due to contracts.

Does that sound about the gist of it?

A lot of these players who show promise need games to fulfil it. We used to be the team to give it to them but we have now moved up the pecking order. We will see more and more of these "scouting failures" because of it now.

We Could have bought either last summer.

We Could have bought off lyon after they bought him for 8m, they were on record saying they wouldn't sell and if I recall turned down a few offers.

We could have got lo Celso at a decent price before he went on loan but I imagine he wasn't on our radar, his betis performances are the ones that have attracted us.

What we couldn't do is gazump lyons or betis' options.

Paying 70 million for a guy that has had one good season in la liga, doesn't sound too great to me.

The thing is Poch wants him, so he's got to do his best to get him. If we get him and he turns out to be disappointing then Poch has to be the one to take the blame.
It goes back to Grealish argument.

perhaps Poch wants him at 45m but not 70m if he knows total budget he may wish to spend that elsewhere or if we are willing to pay that move up a class (de Jong) and we will never know.

Lo Celso at £60m and Ndombele at £65m is more than generous enough for the selling clubs to feel like they are getting a good deal. Personally I think both should be finalised at £55m & £60m personally, I think that's more than fair.

£70m for Lo Celso is far too much for as you said a player who's had one good season to his name career wise so far. Celta Vigo are playing a game of who blinks first IMO, and we know what usually happens in those circumstances.
