Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Makes me laugh when people think £70m is a lot for a player in modern football, Liverpool spent £67m on a goalkeeper, United have just bid £55m for Bissaka.

£70m is nothing in modern football, especially for a club looking to win trophies but I am sure that won't stop people thinking we will "do a leeds" if we spend anymore than £40m on a player.

Laughable really, you have some of our supporters wanting us to win the league or the CL but the second you mention that will require us changing our approach to transfers and spending more money they start getting offended (even though our manager has said the exact same thing.)
The price of living just keeps going up and up. I'm old enough to remember the 1st million pound transfer which I think was Trevor Francis from Brum to Notts F

Hey man disagree all you want with my views about the transfers window. I truly don’t give a fuck. I don’t have an agenda. Levy and Enic are God’s for you. I see and respect.

Tottenham Hotspur the only club in the world were the true good fans are first economic experts and then but a far then football fans.
“What if we buy good but expensive players? NO NO. Then we can’t say to the others clubs we are the only ones doing the right way” :dembelelol:
Where, when? I have only seen people backing the clubs policy not trying to set it.

When we spend big & win the title, they can listen to radiohead (the bends) & sulk in their rooms about how we did it the wrong way. & complain that we are a plastic club & the title means nothing! & then leave us to go support the lowest net spend in the English football league.

This is very true. To be honest unless Betis cave I wouldn't be surprised if we walk away from the Lo Celso deal. Good player for sure, but he's simply not worth anything above 60 million.

If we fail to sign Ndombélé because of refusing to meet the price it will be downright shambolic though, no other way of putting it.
Based on reports, I would agree. I think Levy can make the argument that De Jong went for £68m, we aren’t paying that, but £5m less? Sure, that’s at least in the ball park.

You joke but for some not spending nothing it’s better than winning the league. “Hey we never win but we don’t spend. DOING THE RIGHT WAY”

United with Ferguson was dominating and spending money they generated. Like Real Madrid does. Like fucking Liverpool did this season. Like we can do. It’s not like we want to be sold to some shady Arab.
Some will wake up when Poch walks. But will be too late.

Btw Radiohead is great. OK computer all time great album

Your views are one thing.

Maybe show me who said the statement you claim (twice) and we can go from there....?

If you don't have an agenda, why are you making up phantom 'quotes'? (Genuine question)

Grow up.

I think they have done a great job over the longer term. Doesn't mean to say I think they're perfect. Same goes for the manager.

Something tells me you may be a slight bit more considerate of Porto's financial muscle (or lack therof), so why is it so outlandish to you that Spurs can't afford to have an entirely care-free attitude towards their finances?

Any fan can sit and play fantasy football and pick a list of players they like...... At some point reality kicks in whether you find it 'oh so hilarious' or not.

Then presumably it's because the money is there (or at least considered by those that KNOW).

I've never seen ONE person EVER complain about a signing purely on the basis that they don't want us to spend any money.....

Your default position on all this is disingenuous and juvenile.

Good. So basically come the emd of the summer you are happy with whatever we do anyway! Not really strongly leaning any particularly way.
If we perform and keep growing yes, why wouldn't I? I care about the results and as long as we hit them will support the methods.

I like this team and manager, I think last year we performed poorly but I think that was a freak season.

I think we will continue to grow and trust the team, manager and owner, that's not the same as being happy what ever we do and I am surprised you got that from what I said.

I have a similar impression.... Every season there's a new swathe of young AMs one could get a bit fruity over.... More so that any other position... It's been that way for years now.
You get the feeling the clubs priorities at the moment are:
1) Ndombele
2) Ndombele
3) Resigning Eriksen/signing Lo Celso
4) Resigning Toby/signing young CB
4) Sessegnon
5) Everyone else (RB, AM, DM, F as needed based on outgoing players)

I find it bizarre that this is hasn't really been linked with anyone, seems to have all the raw traits required. A chip on his shoulder perhaps?

Not sure what you mean "this hasn't been linked to anyone"?

It's a bit of a dubious comparison. They play on different sides and are slightly different types of "FB".

Atal's a right back / RWB (who has been linked to us amongst others I think) who played most of the season as a RWB in a 3CB system or as a RM or even as a WRF. He's great going forward, but not played in a back 4 much though, and Nice are a very pragmatic side, and as such his defending ability in a back 4, in a proactive team who want him pushed up all the time hasn't really been tested, yet. He's very quick, so shouldn't want for pace though.

Mendy's an orthodox Left Back( who's on his way to Real Madrid), played in back 4's most of the last 2 years, who might not have Atal's goal tally (or raw pace dribbling ability) but sees about 80% more ball than him, makes nearly twice as many key passes as him.

I'd have liked both of these at Spurs. But we're definitely not getting Mendy.

Both great albums but prefer the bends.
It's either spend big or don't win titles.
Some are optimistic & think win titles but don't spend big. I think that's impossible.
If we did spend big & win the title, I like to think a lot of the 'anti big spending' people would get lost in the moment & be way too happy to care about how much we spent. But who knows.
