Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'd say we've carried Lamela long enough. Despite his age we've already seen the best of him. Swop in for domestic talent (Clarke and Sessegnon) with a fair amount of potential. We don't wanna see them at Bournemouth and cost us £60m next summer.

Agree...no doubt he has great talent but he has always flattered to deceive. Would be better off with the likes of Fraser at Bournemouth. Grafter with no little skill. Creates and scores. Probably cannot do a rabona though.

Shame he had his head elsewhere when it came to the crunch game tho eh?????

(Apparently you have no desire to address this matter tho.)

......How the hell do you know?

Maybe we've been hoping RM will meet our asking price?

Maybe we're shopping him around to other clubs as we speak?
I think I've addressed it, no one in the side was fantastic that night, so I wouldn't just single him out for criticism.

Shopping him out to who? It's Real Madrid or no one. We aren't going to sell him to another English club, RM is the only club who might be willing to pay the fee.

No it's not irrelevant, his goals helped us qualify for next season's CL. He was below par by his own high standards but I still appreciate the job he's done for the team.

Finally!!! ...About 10 posts later you finally concede to the obvious.

I appreciate what he HAS contributed.

You're still dancing round the issue though.

I'm not bothered because I'm not holding to a different standard than other people who work. There are millions of people who, when they are at work are committed and work hard but at the same time look for a more forfilling job with higher pay, benefits etc. He has given 6 years service, I'm pleased with that service,.

Nonsense..... If you publicly pimped yourself out; you'd risk being sacked before you found another job.

How'd you think your employer would react if you told them on the eve of a pivotal moment in their history that you fancied a new challenge?

Ok I guess it's to do with him speaking in the media about his contract situation.

So on that basis what do you make of Poch's conduct, with what he's said about the transfers and 'going home' if he win the champions league.

There's circa £100m directly wrapped up in CEs contract impasse.....

Slightly different stakes.

Besides, Poch's comments have been no-where near as categoric either and any furore about Poch saying he'd retire if he won the CL is/was ridiculous as it was little more than a figure of speach seized upon by the tin-hat brigade that were screaming "showdowwwwwn".

It's certainly part of it, because no one likes to see quality players leaving the club, no one minds if shit players do.

Meh, GKN received pelters for being photgraphed wearing a Chav shirt.... Similarly plenty took exception to Jansen refusing an EPL loan.

Ironic tho'... Cos in a sense that's effectively what I'm accusing you of. :)

Rule No 1. NEVER let an individual's international performances be the measure of how good/bad a player can be. Argentina is currently and has been miss managed for year after year after year.

Giovani Dos Santos was a God of football when he donned his country's shirt. Messi fails to show up in an Argentina shirt. I don't know if this guy is any good or not but wouldn't make any judgement on him at all when he plays for his country.
Miss managed is an understatement. I watched the first half of that game last night and I genuinely physically couldn't watch the second. Absolutely horrendous stuff. Argentina are such a mess it's untrue. They've got a 40 year old bloke who's never managed a senior side in his life in charge ffs.

It really does just go to show that the classic line that's often trotted out "sure even I could win a trophy with those players" is total and utter bollocks.

I think we would hear rumblings if that was the case, I think certainly Poch would say something.

Now I KNOW you're reaching like fuck...

Poch wouldn't bring it up in a presser..... It's against the clubs interests.

You not seen how he reacts to speculation of this nature..?. Even when he's asked if someone is playing a particular game he gets moody and clams up.

Ndombele is a must buy whatever happens. We would pay £80m if that's what it takes (we'll get him at aprox £50m).

Lo Celso is a completely different story. He was probably scouted as Eriksen's successor, but Poch might fancy him anyhow. But with Betis hardballing and his bad performances for Argentina, this aint happening. Different from Ndombele there's a lot of alternatives to Lo Celso. I think it's time to enquire Milan about Lucas Paqueta.

Everyone agrees that Ndombele (or as similar a quality CM as possible if Ndombele deal falls through) is necessary.

Lo Celso is an Eriksen successor but also a real back up for him if he stays - plus with Lamela often injured an upgrade on the depth we have at AM - and he can play CM. With Llorente gone, atm Son and Moura would be Kane's rotation option, so we would need to strengthen last seasons AM line up to cope if we had to.

So if the Lo Celso deal fell through for whatever reason I could see another good quality CM/AM coming in, but given we have been negotiating for him for quite some time now, I think Poch has him as his clear favourite choice.

IMO, DL would buy a 3rd first team squad player - but until we know where we are with Alderweireld, Eriksen and indeed Vertonghen, he's not going to press the button on who (or more importantly which position) until that becomes known - the 3rd player could be a striker, winger/striker, CB or other for example.

I'm concerned we still lack pace. I know its not everything but we were so much better with the speed at fullback.
Other than Sissoko and Moura, winks is quite quick for a CM - we're a pretty pedestrian team. Aurier is deceptively slow, rose isn't as quick as he used to be - I'd apply the same to Kane and Dele probably due to injuries.
I look at Liverpool and city and they have devastating pace - either at fullback or in attack.
Our proposed signings in midfield look the part by all accounts, but I'm still a bit concerned we'll continue with our slow build up play.

You've missed out Son who is pretty devastating.. and fast.

A good cm will add quick incisive passing, something we have missed when Winks is injured, and also when we've had so many injured our forwards have all been fatigued so not taking advantage even if the passing tempo has increased.

Happy to add some speed though - even though with sides defending deep against us these days its the clever quick passing in the final third we need rather than outright speed.

This!

Ball travels faster than man... And beats off-side easier.

Profoundly depressing that we're arguing about who to ship out instead of excitedly imagining where our new signings will fit in.

Still, we don't want to rush into things

You're still dancing round the issue though.
I don't think you appreciate it really, in response to me saying he scored 10 goals, you said pardon you for not getting too excited and hardly a shop window season.
I'm not dancing around the issue, I addressed it, you just don't agree which is a different matter.

Nonsense..... If you publicly pimped yourself out; you'd risk being sacked before you found another job.

How'd you think your employer would react if you told them on the eve of a pivotal moment in their history that you fancied a new challenge?
It's a pointless question, I could tell you anything, there is no way for me to prove it

You haven't addressed what he's said about transfers, stuff like

"If you want to expect the same from Liverpool, from Manchester City or Manchester United and Chelsea, and you put the same expectation on Tottenham, give me different tools to work.

"If not, I see the people working in the same way, in the future I'm going to be this guy. I am the most stupid person to work."

Not just this season either.

Meh, GKN received pelters for being photgraphed wearing a Chav shirt.... Similarly plenty took exception to Jansen refusing an EPL loan.

Ironic tho'... Cos in a sense that's effectively what I'm accusing you of. :)
They are our hated rivals so obviously people will be pissed about as for people taking exception to Jansen refusing a loan they were only upset because they wanted him out.

Speaking out against the way we do transfers is against the clubs best interests but he still does it.

Point remains... It's been a below par season for him and now we know why (not for the first time).

It's a pointless question, I could tell you anything, there is no way for me to prove it

It's not pointless at all... It completely rubbishes your 'real job' comparison.

Funny, you say that about proof tho.... You seem to be trading largely off of baseless speculation and faith here.

You haven't addressed what he's said about transfers, stuff like

"If you want to expect the same from Liverpool, from Manchester City or Manchester United and Chelsea, and you put the same expectation on Tottenham, give me different tools to work.'

Equating to "judge me on what I spend"/"I'd like to spend more if I can."

Not sure what issue you expect me to take with that tbh..... Especially considering he's was probably just batting back shit-stirring questioning (Like Rose previously, CE meanwhile just served up great copy on a silver platter)....

"If not, I see the people working in the same way, in the future I'm going to be this guy. I am the most stupid person to work."

Fuck know's what that means tbh.

They are our hated rivals so obviously people will be pissed about as for people taking exception to Jansen refusing a loan they were only upset because they wanted him out.

Fair enough (not that loan = "out" in that sense), but answer me this then?

What damage does an unwanted player with little market value playing the same game as Eriksen threaten to do?

Very little, but I'd still want the fucker out on the same principal.

Ultimately my view is simple; "media are rats, don't feed them".

Again it's not baseless, Athletico are not a bigger club than us, even if they could afford the fee I don't know why on earth he would want to go there. Barca are not going to pay 80-100 million for him only RM will possibly do that, they have a history of overpaying for players even if they don't fit the side.
PSG and all the others won't pay the fee. That's why there are reports of them offering Draxler plus money.
