Idk, I like to think there is an optimal way to play football. I think it involves using the whole pitch and threatening from all areas of it in order to prevent defenses from packing in deep and/or cheating off their marks.

But yea, it's just speculation on my part.

I'd rather we played Eriksen wide than centrally.
I feel certain Dele needs to be back in the second striker role where he can make back post runs against the smaller CB (the one not man-marking Kane) and wreck house from there.
 
I wonder if it’s that the club can’t or wont/refuses to compete in this market. Either way the lack of promising scouting is troubling along with being able to sell off dead weight. If levy pulls off two quality transfers this window it’ll be hailed as a miracle

Oh I agree, but £25m is a bit much for us to take a chance on.. Thats in the region of what we paid for Son, Lucas, Lamela, Soldado. £10 -15m yeah maybe - rising to £20 -25m based on significant appearances in the league - perhaps.. and I expect that's just the kind of deal Levy would want to secure, minimising risk wherever possible.
It's a significant chunk from any teams transfer budget. I would like to see him as a Tottenham player, but quite low priority when looking at our squad.

Wasn't a dig at you mate... Just a general phenomena that some take to the extreme of thinking they are tactical geniuses and expert scouts themselves.

Market has changed though since we stole Son for 25m.
Prem is inflated, and English players get a ridiculous premium.
25m IS is a worthy punt price on a potential (likely) future England starter.
I'd much rather Sess + Diawara for 50m gbp than only Ndombele.

We are competing? What do you know that we don't?
Our scouting has been phenomenal in picking up great talents for good fees for a long time. What makes you think thats stopped now?
Is it really Tottenhams fault that other teams aren't making offers for our worst players?

Bothers me too.. I understand it's harder to promise 'hot' kids gametime now, but the outside view of our scouting has been dubious for a few seasons....

I understand Levy is allergic to debt, but seriously, interest rates are cheap as fuck right now.
Not really sure why he is averse to taking on a little bit to help us out, or even just standing pat for a year and not paying back principal for a season. Sometimes you need to spend money to make money...

Diawara is more of a trad DM though... Both would be nice, but we need a robust baller at CM.

But the bubble will inevitably burst. The elite players will continue to command high fees but it simp,y isn't sustainable to chuck more money than you gain in profit at signings and wages every single year.

The market has changed agreed but we always see a dramatic inflation spike the year a new TV deal kicks in, it happens every time and plateaus somewhat the following season or two after. It will spike again but these teams getting loan funding from their owners will need to pay it back, be it over 5 years or 50, it's not within the rules of the game for an owner to just dip into their pocket with no payback required, although the loopholes really have been exposed and manipulated by 75% of the Premier League clubs. I wonder how long these owners will continue throwing dough at their new hobbies before their greed kicks in and they say no more, leaving a lot of clubs having to pay off large sums with next to nothing to show for it, no larger stadium, no trophy just a few flamboyant years as a Premier League club.

Champions league final should be enough motivation for the owners. Poch and the squad pulled off a miracle. Outside of loaning maybe selling them at a loss makes sense. levy is a balance sheet master but this is a sport and I don’t want the club getting tore up from the floor up this coming season fighting for 5th

Yes that's fair - the market has changed quite a lot in a couple of years.
I would still say that £25m should have a large part of it made up by clauses. I doubt there's much interest for him at the moment too, and time is well on our side.

You think he's a likely England starter though? Chilwell, Sancho, Sterling will likely offer him some firm competition for the majority of his career.

IDK- global macroeconomic situation says inflation will always be preferred by Central Banks to a deflationary bust. I honestly don't think there will be any "bust" that brings fees and wages back to where they were 3 years ago. We'll get left behind if we think a "reset" in nominal prices is coming.

Got a lot of time for Diawara, he's the perfect Wanyama replacement for me. Diawara & Ndombele would be top business but I think Poch will go with a more mobile Winks type player over a Diawara type these days.

The Lo Celso link fascinates me the most, I don't see how it's practical from a business point of view unless Eriksen is offski
