I would say that if Ndombele is sold I don’t think anyone can accuse Levy of not backing Mourinho. Selling a promising, talented young midfielder, who is also the club record signing, after only one season would be shocking. All three of our signings sure has hell seem like Mourinho guys as well.

I mean Levy just might agree that it's better to sell now rather than give him another season. One more bad season and his value goes down massively, sell now and he'll get most of his money back. If Mourinho doesn't plan to play him much his fate will be sealed anyway.
 
Okay, regarding Van de Beek... IF this has anything to do with us then you can kinda see the logic in the apparent timeline here...

>target 1: Zaniolo - told a straight 'fuck off' by Roma.
>target 2: move straight on to Van de Beek who was next on our list of preferences.
 
I don't think Van de Beek makes sense for us for a number of reasons but if he does come where does he fit with what we have?

It seems like he would play where GLC should play right behind the front 2/3. Would that mean GLC is moved to a deeper role? Does that mean the 4-3-3 is out or do people see him fitting in the MF with GLC and PEH?

I like adding someone with his talent but it seems like an odd fit and it also seems the player thinks he is at a higher level than us as well so I would wonder what his motivation or long term plans would be.

It makes sense if we want a stronger squad to compete on more fronts. We need a strong 15/16/17 players, not just 11.

I would not be opposed to a good player using us as a "stepping stone" for a couple of years, provided we could win something during that time. Levy could see him as a financial stepping stone too, if Barca were to come in with a massive offer. Besides, this is 2020. Long term plans are hard to do.

My concern with a player like that is does he work to make the club better or himself look better?

I agree if he buys into the idea of the best way to make himself look good is to work with the team to get results and show what he can do it could work out. My concern is it goes the other way and he wants to try to do too much, is a ball hog, is wasteful trying to give himself highlight moments showing how "world class" he is.
