If that's the case then I guess we could do worse, but I think we need a Cb with some zip in their legs as well because as much as I liked the TA/JV pairing, two good, composed brains, there were times when those two got spun too easily. Sanchez's redeeming feature is that he's got that zip, and he's not a bad defender, it's just a shame it's attached to a package that has some other technical flaws.
Sanchez has also just turned 24 and has 1 normal PL season under his belt and 1 weird as fuck one.

For comparison, at 24 Toby was still trying to crack the lineup at Atletico and Jan was still at Ajax.

Giving up on Sanchez so early would be foolish. What he lacks is some polish in the mental side...and that comes with age and experience.

Van Djik got his pants pulled down by Kane in December 2015 when he was 24. 2 years later Liverpool buys him for £75m.

Oh I don't mate, I was just trying to be realistic about the his current value compared to the (now staggering) £55m Spurs paid. A very expensive bullet will have to be bit if Levy/Jose genuinely wants rid.

55m wasn't staggering in the context of the time. If it's all about Mourinho then I would rather loan him out for a year and let him get some rhythm back (and build that value back) see where we are with Mourinho in the next year, and then make a call, hopefully we get the footballer we bought back or his value back (or even enhanced), we've got him on a 6 year deal and the kids only 23. In the mean time there are players like Sangare we could bring in for peanuts - 15m ? - who could take up some slack and help buy us time.

Even with some small flaws, a club like us doesn't get loads of chances at signing players with his skill set. Fucking shame to piss it away, at a loss too, because Mourinho chose to make him his cause celebre.

Despite being someone that likes to see things like brains, technique and composure, even in defenders, I still don't hate Sanchez because he does bring some really good physical qualities that all our other CB's lack. He's also tenacious, and can press without fear of being turned. I would have him there most weeks the last couple of years because of this, Dier, TA, JV are all wardrobes whose wheels need some WD40.

Sanchez's reading of danger is actually also reasonably OK, but I don't think he's ever going to be a TA or VVD when it comes to that composure thing with or without the ball.

I don't think he is perfect which is why he is 40-50 and not 70 million, but I think he is an above average CB, that you can pair with multiple types of players and not be worried about what he is going to bring.

It may be that I am too scarred from watching Dier too often play as though he has never seen a football game in his life or has money on the other team but I really like the idea of having a guy back there that will do his job, keep everything organized back there and cut out the threats that other teams pose.

Conte is much of a fucking dinosaur as our very own. If Ndombele really wants to go, he should move to a club that has a manager who believes in progressive possession style of football.

Probably fair comment, if there was ever a player that typifies what Jose doesn't want in a footballer it's Tanguy. Unfortunately i can't see him making it while JM is around.
The irony is his skill set is exactly what we're missing. If Jose could find a way to harness him it would give us a dimension we currently lack.

I don't think he'll be a VVD type, necessarily, but he's had flashes - he just lacks consistency - and gametime.

Where's that GIF of Levy with the barrow of money when you need it?
I gotya, senpai.

It's a shame Ziyech is not on the market. Now he has that creativity and cuntish attitude that we need and Jose likes. He was the standout player against us in last year's semis against Ajax, not VDB

Fan of Mourinho, that's a funny one. I don't think that will be enough of a pull if the choice comes down to us or Utd

I disagree with that. The only pull Manure have these days is money.

If he went to united it would be to play for a manager who is only there due to cronyism. VDB is a creative midfielder. With refs tripping over themselves to award Fernandes penalties for...tripping over himself, he would likely sit on the bench for a while.

Their other creative midfielder is a primadonna who for some reason holds a lot of power there even though he isn't very good. Probably because he cost a lot of money.

They aren't looking likely to win a trophy soon nor would he look like starting there. But he would make a shit load of money though and if that is where he sees his career trajectory then best of luck to him.

A leopard never changes his spot. Mourinho will have to betray his 'principles' to accomodate Ndombele in the starting lineup. Don't see that happening.
