Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Good window for us so far with Hojbjerg, Doherty and Hart filling 3 key positions for us (yup even Hart as an HG 3rd goalkeeper was key for us).

Last real key position for us to fill is striker who can play as an alternative to Kane (and even with him sometimes ?) - which I hope is next, whilst recognising players being on international duty may delay things. But still 2 weeks before the season starts.

After that :

Ndombele - stay or go, may determine who we can afford for :
1. Another defender, probably a centre back who ideally can cover one or both full back positions
2. A creative midfielder

I assume Aurier will leave. Rose will need to make a choice (not in the club's hands) to stay or go. CCV with one year left on his contract may stay (we have room for a club trained CB) or go dependent upon who else comes in.

If we get all that done it will be a very solid performance in a difficult window......and top 4 and even a trophy is definitely possible.
People are 50/50 on PEH and similar with Hart. I think there is lot of work to be done, if those turn out to be the only signings then that isn't good enough. Need back up/competition for PEH as well. Unless we're happy to go with Winks. Don't assume that Aurier is going to leave either until Milan make a bid Levy is willing to accept.

He looks very happy with the signings. He isn’t one to say something because the board wants him to do

Indeed....

He's not stupid... He didn't take the job on expecting the kind of budgets he had at Utd & RM.

I think he's happy enough to cut his cloth according to where he is.

I also think this could well be his last domestic role before gunning for silverware with Portugal so sees it as a chance to prove the doubters wrong about a few things.

I think José is actually happy to work under these constraints. For years people have slagged him as being a manager who needs to spend hundreds of millions to achieve success, after the way it ended at United he will want to show everyone that his coaching skills are still sharp enough to do the job without huge spending.

He is loving the Amazon doc as it gives him a chance to reboot his image and show his nature as a coach.

Is that supposed to be a bad thing now?
Not selling our best players?
Rose, Dele, Toby and even Poch all thought they’d walk into big gigs whenever they wanted because Walker did.

Only Tripper made it.
Eh I didn't say it was a bad thing I just said no big assets have left, Trippier wasn't a big asset when he left. Rose, Dele and Toby are still with us and Poch was sacked. No big jobs have come up apart from the juventus job and rumor is Juve didn't want to pay his wages.

And I think he has got the squad to win the Europa League or a domestic cup, but there is no reason to believe that he will win the league or the CL here. I would say that his appointment has been reasonably succesfull and worthwhile if he wins the EL or FA Cup - the last time we won some serious silverware was in 1991.

So far we've got 3 great additions to the squad in Hijbjerg, Doherty and Hart, with only KWP leaving so far.

Think we will need to see a couple of players leave, as much to create places for incoming transfers, as much as generating money.

The obvious options - Aurier, Foyth and Rose (but we'd only get a small fee say £5m-10m and as a Club Trained player does not create places for incoming transfers)

A few options that JM probably prefers to keep, but if needs be : Gedson (early termination of loan), ever injured Lamela or the industrious but arguably unproductive Sissoko. Probably need to replace at least the last 2 players, so only makes sense if we can upgrase at the same time.

Worth looking at contract termination dates (see below) as well - those with 2 or less years on their contract we probably want to ship out for money or persuade them to sign a new contract as under 2 years, transfer fees drop (as we saw with Eriksen). So expect news on goalkeepers signing new contracts before the TW ends !

2021 Rose CCV (and Gedson loan ends)
2022 Lloris Gazzaniga Aurier Foyth Lamela Hart Austin Whiteman
2023 Alderweireld Son Sissoko Clarke Parrott White Eyoma, Bowden
2024 Kane Dele, Winks, Sanchez Moura, Davies Skipp Dier, Doherty
2025 Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon, Bergwijn Tanganga, Højbjerg

When challenged few posters, if anyone, has come up with a realistic alternative to Hojbjerg - combination of money, previous PL experience (and many players from overseas leagues find PL a much bigger step up in terms of speeed and physicality than they expect - Ndombele may be an example) and indeed the bigger problem is/was the lack of top class 'real DM's' around or available etc.

Winks is fine - but is a no 8 not a no 6 where he's been played (and played too many matches if anything). And White will also make a few appearances, mainly in EL and League Cup I imagine, which will also provide a bit of cover.

Aurier either stays (as cover at RB/LB) so would have a use or, as Milan seeem to want him, a compromise will come about.

I know Trippier wasn’t a big asset.
I know the others are still here.

That’s my point.....no one other than Walker of our big assets bettered themselves. They were made to stay when they wanted out.

What’s your point?

If that was your point why didn't you just say that no big assets have left, in the first place instead of going this long way around?
