Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

I wasn't really talking about selling players on because we don't need to do that any more. Players like Verts, TA, Rose, Wanyama they are done and there are question marks over Dier and Winks and Hugo, Aurier won't get any better he will always make a mistake in every game. Peak players imo are Son and Kane. This would be the right time in strategy, get Campos in and let Mourinho work with him.
Yes I imagine we will do that now - but if we were to follow the Ajax strategy we would be selling off our best players 3 years ago in their peak and bringing players through behind them. Probably wouldn't get CL qualification etc and I can only imagine what the fan base would have said.

We took the piss for the past few years squeezing the last out of the group, its allowed us to become one of the rich clubs and now we have to back that up.

Thing is, we're not really doing an Ajax, we're kinda split on our identity.

To do an Ajax, you play them regularly from the age of 17 or 18 and by the time they are 20/21 you're ready to ship them out for big profits, and that's where we come in. We're the team looking to buy these young up and coming players of 21-23 years old who we reckon we can either get 10 years out of, or a large fee out of.

We'll not buy an established 28 year old, the likes of Koulibaly or Isco or Raul Jimenez, too big of a fee, too little time in the team. If they don't work out, we lose big money.

We're more like a finishing school for Ajax graduates than a development centre like Ajax, or an established team like City

Bringing Jose in when you're negotiating things like Stadium naming rights and things like that could be worth a lot more than £15million. A huge pick up on social media also generates money and raises profile. All good if say, the owners were thinking of selling.

I'm saying that if Jose knew we were spending £25million one one player, considering we had lost Kane by this time, do you think Jose would have prioritised a small tricky fast attacker, something he had two of, or a target man striker?
I think we earned 100 million from the CL last season, hiring Mourinho won't earn us more than that.
I think Jose knew what he was getting into, he didn't want the overpriced pap that was available so prioritised a small tricky winger.

In the summer it's going to be the same fun and games, probably start the summer off by bidding 1 million for Ze Luis.

Foster on a free is smart.

HG and better than Gazzaniga.

Smalling would be strange, despite his career season right now.

Good argument for doing that with Rose, TA and Verts, we've just giving TA a new contract FFS! We're going to miss out on the CL anyway, might as well have some plan in place going forward.

I would argue there is more of a need because of the league being flooded with money, transfer prices are silly because of it. We can't get involved in

Well, I certainly don't disagree overall, but we can get involved, we just choose not to.

The Ajax model simply isn't realistic. Firstly, they get all the best talent in the first place and they sit in a league where they are not going to compromise their overall success by sticking to their principles. Look how their CL team has been gutted after last season's final.

I would like us to strike a nice balance. It would be good to see a few more youngsters come through.

But we're miles away. Skipp is a forgotten entity, despite our woeful situation in defensive midfield. Parrot is simply not going to play.

Mourinho isn't going to offer much in that department. He will do a bit here and there - it's unfair when people accuse him of never playing youngsters - but overall, he'll always favour grizzled experience.
