Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I sympathise with those getting angry at other posters talking about getting players “if relegated” or “if they don’t go up” or even “if don’t qualify for Europe” if abroad. However, I don’t think it’s a case of us not being able to get a player from a fellow PL club, it’s just the cost will be that much higher. This makes the deal less attractive. As much as we’d like to believe not, we will be working to a budget, so every extra £ spent somewhere is a £ less spent elsewhere.
For example, whilst he’s not my first choice, Callum Wilson would be a good backup to Kane. However the Kane back up is nowhere near the priority compared to Right Back and DM. So if a relegated Bournemouth want £10m but would be £25m if they’d stayed up, then it’s the difference between getting a Hojbjerg or a Zakaria as DM.

of course we’ll go cheap in both positions :mourfacepalm:
but the point remains that at £10m its a no risk purchase in the scheme of things

Wouldn't it be nice if we could announce a transfer or 2 today, instead of 5 minutes before the window closes.

Just for a change.
Imagine if the price we agree on deadline day after weeks (or months :levywhoa:) of negotiating it down is "100%", how much higher could the price be today for you to still be happier?

For example you could say: "The club would be better run if we pay 110% NOW rather than wait until the end of the window and pay 100%"

It's a genuine question, not an attack or anything

I just would like some transfers in that will get a bit ofa pre season.
We have (allegedly) been chasing two fellas for months now.one has clearly stated he wants in,it should be done.We even know what his club would accept.
We have lost out to penny pinching in the past .
Remember Berbatov? Levy ground it out till the last minute for an extra 3 mill, yet had no time to spend it in.That was the same in reverse!
I take you point, but sometimes you have just pay up.

I’m struggling to recall the name of it but I remember reading one of those Freakonomics type books a few years ago which made this very argument (not about football transfers). But it was about shoppers who spend hours and hours trying to buy a product at that much cheaper amount but the saving being negated by the time and the inconvenience etc.

Definitely preferable to have deals done earlier as gives a better chance of the player hitting the ground running and therefore being more effective.

Premier League & EFL summer transfer window to be from 27 July to 5 October

Classic basically calling us out for providing a lot of talking but no action October it is.
Season starts in six weeks is it worth having a punt on having no one in by then, it's feasible that we would start with what we have.

If he's had decent offers from top of the table teams as he claims; then why would the geezer care who twitter says is the likely destination?

Think about it; are we to assume all the trad. top 6 clubs are chasing PEH? Unlikely, in which case these upper tier clubs are (as per rumoured interest) us & City and neither club are prepared to pay the (suggested) OTT asking price of 35m.

Just seems like a fairly desperate attempt to drum up bigger bids that may well not be likely..... As if clubs are gonna be swayed by such school-yard level negotiating tactics anyway tho'.

If they seek to reinvest the fee generated S'oton will have to shit or get off the pot eventually, cos they won't want him to run his deal down and leave for free.

Look we have been here before, yes interest gets drummed up we still hope the player wants us and it drags on until deadline day.
