It's an interesting point.

I don't think it necessarily works though, in a 38 game season you play everyone twice home and away. You can take a snapshot of a calendar year and point out the form in that period but its not really the same thing.

Calum Wilson played 35 games and bagged 7 league goals. Dele bagged 8 in only 25 games and had a pretty bad season by his standards.

Bottom line is, I'm not sure Brooks or Wilson are better than our current fringe players.
Problem is, as we all know, we are going to be getting free/bargain basement/relegated team players etc etc. We know this so what's the point in discussing anyone else ? Hoejberg, Wilson, Deeney......would we be looking at them with any decent ambitious owners? I think not. We'll wait until the end of the TW and maybe pick up a couple of cheapies. Starting 11 next season is going to include all the usual suspects. Sissoko, Aurier, Sanchez, etc. No good new CDM. No good new DM. No good new R/LB. This is a depressing but realistic scenario. Without the players that we need but aren't going to get, we'll be lucky to see 6th next season. Probably no Harry after that. Maybe no Sonny. Where's it all going to end? The Championship?

That's the spirit.

£15m during a pandemic is a lot of money for a club like Southampton to turn their noses up to.

According to Transfermkt, they’ve only ever spent £7m more on top of that figure on any player, so you’re looking at a huge slab for them to be missing out on for what would essentially be a bench warmer
If Southampton leave it a year ,then someone else
will come in and offer him twice as much in wages as a free and for a better club he would be only a bench warmer but cash talks.
Playing roulette hardball has cost the first 11 constantly .
We should be signing players of the like of the Chavs if we had any desire to compete.
This is a another bottom half plodder .

If the chairman is like Jeremy Peace he won't care, he might think Levy is so annoying that it's worth it. Either way, long negotiations are going to fuck us up. He won't get a preseason (as per usual with Levy's antics) he needs all the football he can get.

ENIC are stupid to do this, we'll never get a manager of Mourinho's pedigree again. If the team is midtable, the whole value of us as a club and business go down. Mourinho will get sacked, then Eddie Howe will be hired and asked to get CL with PEH, Deeney/Wilson and no money to spend. The further away we get from top 4, the more they will have to invest to get us back there.

Conte seems to be having some issues with Inter and there are rumors he could jet for Juve. That’d certainly dampen those Skriniar talks I’d imagine.

Coutinho rumors have also returned. Still not sure how that can happen or if I want it to happen. But tbh GLC, Dele, Countinho, Ndombele as our attacking mids is pretty impressive.
“Count is enough now”.

Conte officially attacked Inter Milan saying that the club did not protect him and the players. And now Inter are angry

What would the reaction be here if KWP and Aarons were our two RBs next year?
Meh

Rather that than Aurier but neither are close too good enough.

I would be disappointed but delighted that Aurier has left. Both are improvements on him. I’ve always felt that with a run of 10 games in the side KWP could’ve made the right back spot his own. Maybe now we’ll see that.
Aaron’s is better defensively than a lot on here are giving him credit for but still not sure he’s better than KWP and an ideal world KWP is our back up to a better right back

We simply can’t have another year out of the champions league. One year is fine but two isn’t.

Mourinho has very publicly said already he’s identified players he believes are achievable to get in this market and has given that report to levy. So as usual it will be up to him to get it done. I reckon he will but it won’t be until the season has started. He loves to make the manager start the season with one hand tied behind his back not realising by doing that it’s costing us points and money in the long run that season. He does it every time so will do it again. I was bored getting annoyed by it when he used to do it to redknapp so completely immune to it now.

The coronavirus will be with us for at least another 12 months. Disruption to next season is of course possible and the health effects on players is thus far unknown.

Frustrating as it is, as a business, it wouldn't be wise to invest huge sums of money at this time; especially given the huge investment made last summer.

That being said, Jan going frees up a squad spot and 100k a week salary + Parrott out on loan. We for sure will have players incoming; albeit not the superstars fans would crave.

Wilson being priced between £20-30m apparently.. 28 years old with 2 bad knee injuries and only scored more than 10 in a PL season once.

I think he's a good player, and would offer us a good option from the bench, but for that price I'd honestly us rather go in for Eduoard from Celtic.

22 years old, 49 goals in 82 appearances for Celtic, built for the PL. Before people moan it's only the Scottish league, see Van Dijk, Robertson, Wanyama, Larsson as reference.

I agree but Celtic would want quite a bit for him, as a club we are not prepared to pay that so it's a non starter I feel.
