One of the things that bugs me a bit with the whole saga is direct comparisons to Sonny after his first season.

Yes, he wasn't settled and wanted out, but he was streets ahead of what Ndombele has shown in 19/20. Quite frankly, I think it's also obvious that Son has a remarkable dedication and work rate which will always give a player the best chance of eventually 'clicking' with a new team.

Ndombele just seems like the opposite. I have very little faith in him coming good for us.

The only thing I'd add by way of counter is that players like what we saw from Son in his first season, athletic wing-y forwards who like to be on the ball and kind of wax and wane in their effectiveness, are a dime a dozen, they're everywhere.

What Ndombele has shown is something incredibly rare that we can't just go out and replace.

Son had much more to grow and provide than what he initially showed, and Poch will have known that Son is the type of character who was going to reach that ceiling. The jury is out on Ndombele in that regard.

Maybe, but we'd be screwing ourselves over to a certain extent if we were looking for a player (or two) from Inter in a swap deal. They'd have zero pre-season and we might have some issue getting them registered for the EL group stages.
Sure, it's a risk, but so is selling him after one season where he was injured for half the year. If we can get actual pieces we need from Inter then it makes sense because there are a lot of gaps to fill in the squad at the moment, but anything with Ndombele is likely going to drag out regardless, so I'm not sure if the club is really losing too much by waiting. I don't think Europa registration should be an issue since it's a different phase of the tournament, but I'll admit that I'm not 100% sure

I'm trying to find it in the thread, but is there anyone from Inter that would be of impact outside of Škriniar (RB/ST)? I feel like Mou loves Cirkin/Davies at LB.

Fully expect this new geezer to bang in 40 goals next season. If he doesn’t do that then he’s a terrible player and we should bin him off imo.

I’m still clinging on to the hope that he is the missing piece of the jigsaw and he will allow us to play GLC and Ndombele as a midfield 3
Can't be any worse than our current DM. With it basically being a swap, I see it as a free hit at getting a quite good DM. If it works out then great. If not, we didnt really risk much & can sell him on. Not expecting him to be an amazing DM. But even if he is a consistent 7 out of 10 DM then its an improvement.
I think he scores a few thunderbolts too.
Seems like the forum is split on him. Quite good to quite bad.
I guess at the end of the day its plugging the holes rather than a big step forward to take us to the next level. But this is a club that is cool with signing nobody so we can't expect too much.

Also, could this be the end for diers DM career?:dier:

I don't want to be the one to spoil it, but Dier has been playing CB for the last 2 months.

I would love to get Barella, although he is there on loan so not sure how that would work. Martinez as mentioned but no chance he is coming. Other than that it looks like a lot of guys who are too old or just ok.

Sonny had plaisir fasciitis a notoriously difficult injury to manage. It wasn’t anything like Ndombele, like you say, the comparisons are lazy and inaccurate.
