Wiki really sucking Rakatic off here

A talented, intelligent, and hard-working midfielder, Rakitić is known in the media as a well-rounded playmaker, with good stamina and defensive skills, as well as excellent technique, close control, vision, passing, and an ability to read the game, which enables him to dictate play in midfield and create chances for teammates after winning back possession, despite his lack of pace. As such, he is capable of both breaking down opposing plays and subsequently transitioning the ball forward to start attacks; he is also capable of scoring goals himself, courtesy of his striking ability from distance, as well as his ability to find and exploit spaces with his movement off the ball and make attacking runs into the box. A versatile player, he is capable of playing in several midfield positions, and has been deployed as a winger on either side of the pitch, as a central midfielder, as an attacking midfielder, as a defensive midfielder, in a box-to-box role, or even as a deep-lying playmaker
So the Sissoko comparison is bang on then....:pochsmirk:

I read a different account...

An enthusiastic homophobe, Rakitić is known in the media as a well-rounded bigot, who was keen to draw "blacks, fat people and dwarfs" into his argument as to why he wouldn't share a dressing room with a gay person...

I mean did anyone watch the World Cup or any Barcelona game over the last 6 years? Rakitic is really good!

AWB didn't play RB at youth level? Where did he play? He is a pretty simple footballer that seems perfectly suited for his current position.
Don't know if you read subsequent posts but he was a forward/winger previously but had no goals in him and not great at beating a man with the ball, mostly pace. Natural conversion. Similar to a crazy athletic WR with no hands, right? DB it is. Surprised the conversion isn't as common round these parts.
WIKI...

Kind of apples and oranges of course, but you get the gist...

TAA is a frustrated CM of course, not saying Gedson has his tools, but it's not outrageous to believe he may well be able to translate his potential more readily further back on the pitch.
Yes, Zest, I got the gist and was making you aware of it. I am not sure either of our players would make the transition to RB. I just don't know. AWB's was cemented in Roy's mind during training when on repeated efforts Zaha (nor any other player) couldn't get by him. And to this day he remains a dominant 1v1 defender that is learning the group aspect.

And TAA has no ball skills to be a CM. Surprised he ever played there. There is literally nothing about that player that screams midfielder to me.
For Wan-Bissaka having an athletic winger move back to FB seems like a much more natural transition than a CB or Box to Box CM.
Totally agree with this.

Frenkie de Jong is the future there, and they don't want Rakitic in his way.

We play nine million games next year in a compressed schedule, and with 5 subs. Rakitic can play all over the place in a 4-2-3-1 or especially if and when we're in a 4-3-3 and he has been a top player for many years offering both mobility and creativity in spades. I can believe how dubious people are of him.

I won’t speak for other people, but I’m dubious of Rakitic because he’s 32, his performances are declining, and I don’t think he’s a great fit for Mourinho. He was a very good-great player at his peak and helped the Barca midfield tick for a pretty damn good length of time, but he’s not the player he was even at the World Cup two years ago.

However, we saw something similar with Vertonghen this past season, when players lose that ability to compete at the top level, it isn’t coming back. Barca are keen to move on Rakitic because they are broke and need to get rid of his wage, so there is a cheap deal to be had, but we’re going to be right back in the market for a MF again next summer if we do it.
