Plenty reasons to be negative about our transfer activity writ large. But we did just buy a £55m Serie A defender of the season at our biggest position of need. We’ll see what happens the next two weeks, but it’s not exactly we haven’t been pretty active this window.
It was 47M pounds (55M Euro) and at least 2 seasons too late. And with Toby and Jan getting older (Sanchez and Dier sucking) some would argue it was later than that. Not sure we should get top marks just for spending money...'wisely' and 'timely' would factor in as well.

Mate, look at our net spend. We have spent about 2 million. It’s utterly ridiculous the club are more interested in balancing the books than they are preparing this team for the season. Romero is great but we should of had 2 centre backs bought in by now, not 1. We should of bought our Right back already. The Harry Kane situation shouldn’t be rolling into next week either. We should of given City a deadline this week to either pay 160 mil or the transfer is over with, then kane has to stay. Everyone always says, let’s wait until the window finishes. Same shite every season.
I really don’t want to defend our transfer activity as I have many of the same complaints, but I do think Paratici has infused a refreshing dose of urgency.

Also not sure where you’ve gotten that net spend number from. With Gil and Romero I think we’re around +50m net, no? Only Foyth has been sold for any real money.

Its not fucking finances you clueless moron.

As pointed out we didn't pay the extra 5-8m on Fernandes but spent 10m on Clarke. That isn't because of building a stadium it is poor management. Hiring Jose cost more than hiring a competent manager how the fuck do you blame that on the goddamn stadium? Doherty brought in when he doesn't fit the way we play in any way? No striker brought in in how many windows? You are telling me that is the stadium?

We didn't buy a player for 500+ days? No club has ever done that are you saying we are the only club in history that has built a stadium so that is why that happened?

The manager search going for 70+ days is the stadiums fault?
As I said you are simply clueless ..... thanks for making that so blindingly obvious.

Was just responding to VY's point. But as far as logistics, if this thing is happening it's been agreed in principle all summer. No way it's been left this late. All window dressing.

Plus we’re not exactly near top rung of the food chain for transfers, so many (like Romero) need to be sure an elite team aren’t at the table before rocking up at our joint.

Urgency ?
Is that supposed to be a joke ?

Based on what?

The season is starting tomorrow and there is a good chance we have zero new players in the starting 11 or even playing in the game. We currently have no back-up striker, no starting level RB, 1 starting level CB, no RW's and massive questions in the MF.

Sure he has started late but there is no reason we haven't addressed many of our big issues.

Always a fuzzy one to work out, to be honest.

Initially, people just go "£50m + £25m = £75m" and thats it for the summers spend.

But of course, these deals are normally paid in installment.

Our transfer outgoings this summer may well include payments on Bergwijn/DOherty/Rodon etc.

And Romero in particular - technically is a loan this year, to be made permanent next - so no spend at all yet, even though there is the commitment/agreement made for £40-odd million....

Romero is a loan with option to buy bro, we haven’t spent fuck all on him mate. Chances are he will be bought eventually but at the moment he’s a loan. We have spent nothing mate. Like I said, 2 mil net spend. Profit over glory and it’s why we win nothing with these clowns in charge.

Coupla things: a) these negotiations/interest occur during the season and b) players and agents can read the tea leaves as to which clubs have a need for a particular position. Beyond that we aren't very far from the top rung with PL money. Outside of our current situation as a clown show there are only 6ish clubs ahead so it's easy to do the calculus.

We’re obviously going to buy him.

Trix:

First I'll appolgise for jumping the gun a little on Thursday evening. To clarify I was hearing bits from two people one with very recent close links to City and one at Spurs. So as things were coming through I put 2+2 together and came up with 4.1. I say 4.1 as although it's not 100% accurate it's pretty closs. First I heard it was likely to be completed by the weekend the other source said the conversations were putting every one in the same ball park and expected everything to be agreed in the next couple of days(but not completed)

Kane wants out. The only way he signs a new deal is if the deal doesn't happen and it he gets guarantee's included so he can leave asap. Nuno wants him gone, and Fab has players lined up and the Kane money changes the possible variables of who we get. So he needs to know what exactly we have to spend and if we need to replace or not.

No official bid but like I said they have moved a lot and it's litterally a phone call away from going through.

I'd be amazed if this doesn't now happen and I'm told it's circa 140 in cash that will get it done, with add-ons.

Fuck me, do we actually ever properly buy players? Loan with Obligation to buy FC
If we pay up front, you'd be "ffs what the hell are we paying all this money up front."

If we pay in installments it'd be "why can't we buy players like a big club and slap the cash on the table."

If we buy an expensive player and he flops you'd be "why the fuck didn't we get him on loan first to see if he's worth it."

Bottom line: we could sign Messi, Neymar, and Haaland for £0 and on £35K/wk and you would still find something to complain about.

You must be a ray of sunshine to be around in real life.

my eyes need bleaching

We don’t need a centre back, surely we have other priorities. There’s a chance that Dier and Sanchez look better next to a decent centre back, ditto Rodon (plus Tangana)

that’s five incl Romero, six with Davies (in a back 3)

surely right back is a key position, little to know chance of Aurier or Doc funding form or consistency. Tangana? Poss
I hope you're joking

Im fine in real life. You don’t even know who the bloody he’ll I am. But, when it comes to my football club, I get pissed off with how we run the club. How incompetent the club is. If Spurs splashed the cash and showed ambition, why the fuck would I be annoyed ?
