We need these poor players to play well so that in the Summer we are in a better financial position to be able to attract better players to replace the poor players.

These poor players know that if they play well they are only making it easier for the club to replace them.

Such a difficult situation.

Just like if we finish this season badly we won't really be able to improve the squad unless ENIC takes a really big gamble which they would need to . Because if we don't invest enough in the summer we will not improve 1 signle bit.

Sabitzer is only 26, no?
That's right. 27 next month. I am sorry, but that is too old for me, and we will give him big money, too. I think we have lost our way.

Godfrey is 23 - the exact same age as Joe Rodon, who we signed in the summer anyway.
But Godfrey's mobility is absolutely sensational, and he is great with the ball at his feet.
I do agree that we should be looking at future young players to fill our squad up though. Signing a 29 year old Matt Doherty was ridiculous when we already had 23 year old Walker-Peters for example.
Well, there was serious bargain-bin moves afoot there. The whole appeal of that deal was we were getting a decent midfielder for £3m. And he played well against us a few months previously-don't forget that. Similarly, Sabitzer made an impression against us last season. I think it is a terrible way to conduct our business-to set our transfer targets according to whomever played a good game against us recently.

If we are going for Nagglesman I would be very much in favour of getting Sabitzer as he would be a ready made player.

So who's out there that is a commanding CB with a Left peg and is around 25 Year old?
That is probably what we should trying to find.

Do they come with a defensive coach?

Because if I said to you last summer we were signing John Stones, you'd have laughed square in my face and told me he probably wasn't an improvement on what we have.

Fast forward 6 months - and he's performing as part of one of the best defences in Europe.

ha ha I thought the same thing , Buy Dogerty so he doesn't score against us
Dogerty is such a poor example of a defender and tbh as I've said on the player thread I'm sure he's an undercover agent at Woolwich, he is playing against us . i'm convinced.

We have to do things differently because we are up to our nuts in stadium debt. We seem to have taken a more short-term approach in terms of our recruitment, and I don't like it. Why can't we find the next Sabitzer and cash in on him when he is 27?

I've not watched city a lot but he's getting plaudits so must of responded well to signing of Dias and Ake.
Tbh no one even the pundits on the TV thought Stones would be a starter again for City.

But we need a good Left sided CB in the summer!!!

His confidence is shattered. Even Dinoman has said that. Even so, from the moment he came through the door, he has been horrendous. I just worry about what has happened to our business model. There is a whole lot of false economy going on.

We do indeed.

It's probably more important that we coach the squad how to defend though. Because if we sign a top quality left sided centre back and we continue to defend how we do, it won't be long before a certain section of our fanbase start calling him a flop, a waste of money and his confidence dips.

Probably Mourinho and wanting older players , more 'ready made' players.
Levy seems a lot more happy to cater to Mourinho than he did to Poch.

Also I personally think on Dogerty that people just over-hyped him. He scored a lot of goals at Wolves but from false positions. He did what Marcos Alonso was doing at Chelsea before getting his goals/assists from set pieces or popping up in the box like a 2nd ST.

Both of those players could never work in a back 4 and both of those are known to have major defensive weaknesses.
DOn't have a clue why people within the club thought it was a good idea to buy him

For whatever criticisms of Dier and Sanchez we do look like we allow pressure on them way more than what you would want. Our players look isolated, I remember this from AVB days, always 2-3 opponents vs one of our players.

Think we could get away with having one of them in the squad bit both together is a calamity.

I understand this argument

I thought this before like say against Man City where they had too much to do
but then yesterday they rarely had to defend but the moments they had to get right - they didn't

what I don’t get is why they have gone backwards. Dier a season or two ago was average, now he is shit, Sanchez looked quite reasonable his first season, now he is crap. What the fuck are we doing with them.

Not a clue but we definitely over payed for Sanchez, could of got real quality with the money we spent on him.
