Asking for a bald mate.....

Would you accept Kane to City in a player + cash deal - with Ferran Torres coming our way?
Torres touted as the next big thing in City agreeing to join the Levy Circus ? He must get into some strong drugs in the summer to even consider that...

Straight cash from City..

Throw ManU sacks of money back at them as was done with the case of Modric. ManU are the rivals and no way is a Spurs player being allowed to join them

Not sure how much of Inter you've seen, but is there any reason we shouldn't go after Bastoni?

His contract expires in 2023, and he hasn't yet signed an extension due to an issue over wages (but apparently close to a compromise agreement). Just turned 22, and starts for both Inter and Italy.
Given Inter's financial position, they need sales, could be a solution to our CB problem?
Inter would rather let Milan Skriniar leave, than Bastoni or De Vrij. Bastoni was their discovery last year under Conte, and he has only gotten better since. His main strength is the way he plays with the ball, bit like Toby for us, in that regard, italians see him as the successor to Bonucci (although in my opinion, he's much better than Bonucci ever was at defending). This is almost impossible, but if Conte is the manager to come to us, he might bring Bastoni and Barella with him, which would solve all of our defensive and midfield issues, and would also make a good squad for a 3-5-2 style (this is all in the scenario that Kane is leaving).

No just better than Bonucci at defending? But much better?! :saha:
Bonucci is shite at defending, especially in 1v1 situations. He's great in the air and playing from the back, but there is a myth in countries that don't watch italian football that he's a good defender. There is a reason why he only works with Chiellini or De Ligt, and why he failed miserably that season at AC Milan.

‘Bonucci is shite at defending’. Is this in the last couple of years or generally? If it’s the latter then is frankly nonsense.
I’ve watched plenty of Italian football over the years and the national team. He was an excellent defender. Top bracket of defenders.
Cheilini - is also an outstanding defender - complemented him, he had more pace, was more aggressive, some attributes expected from a player that was comfortable as fullback. To criticise Bonucci for playing better in tandem with him is like criticising one of baresi/costcurta, scirea/gentile.
Milan were in a shocking state when he went there, and he’s been on decline since.

Yeah, I've seen him a lot, for whatever reason I've watched about 30 Inter games in the last 18months. Bastoni could be a top player, but he plays in a three at the back, under an elite coach and beside two excellent CB's in a league where maybe 10-12 of the teams he faces in the year are a bit crap, and they've performed poorly at European level. It's hard to know if he'd come in and be excellent for us in a back four, but his attributes are unquestionably very good.

Another thing, I'm always wary of considering Italians as transfer targets. Maybe it's simplistic of me, but I always assume the top Italian players will play for Milan or Juventus, though obviously there's exceptions. I doubt they'd let him go for less than 50m and I don't see us spending that.

Compared to Chiellini or Barzagli, he wasn't anything special at defending, also because those 2 were incredible. That's why I think Bastoni is more complete, he has shown growth and has the potential to be a top defender, with and without the ball.

Assuming that Aurier, Sanchez, Sissoko, Vinicius and Winks all leave this summer; (also assuming we keep Rodon and Bale, promote Devine and Tanganga does not go on loan) here's next season's potential squad.
Leaves 3 EL places either non-HG or HG and a possible extra slot for EPL only.

He’s 22 though vs a decade at the top. Barzagli - come on. Good defender but turned like a double decker bus.

I think due financial pressures we could outbid Juventus or Milan, in particular if we had the cash from selling Kane.
What you say about Bastoni makes a lot of sense- there's a lot of uncertainty. If you had to spend £40m on one CB this summer, who would it be?

I dunno really, there's lots of good options. Badiashile, Tapsoba, Ndicka, Bade, White, Kamara and the list goes on. Transfer committee/scouting at the club should be able to sift through every minute these guys have played this year and find the next Fofana, Kounde, Dias etc, which we aren't paid to do.

I do think we'll be in for Anderson. He's a good player, but we've all seen his issues in recent weeks when Fulham play higher up the field, and some of his general awareness issues. White, Tapsoba and Kamara (played as dm this year) all defend well and use the ball well, and carry the ball into space which is something we're crying out for at the back imo.

New manager might play three at the back, which will need to be taken into consideration as well. I dunno, it's all up in the air, let's hope for the best.

Brighton have a fantastic defensive record, but I do get worried about making assumptions about how good the defenders are when a team are playing 5 at the back after I saw Conte make Luiz look great with that formation.
What you say is reassuring, so perhaps he should be a serious option to consider.
Could be talking out of my arse here again, but for me, the guy is a bit vanilla. Lacks physicality, aerial ability and aggression. I just don't understand the hype.

I just want to point out that this is Kamara's third season as a DM.

He has not been a regular CB for a long time. So recruiting him as one would be a mistake.

I'm not a fan of Vlahovic yet. Let's remember Belloti and Immobile as beat strikers in the Serie A.

Really dunno which striker nowadays could be good signing.

If Kane left then the young hyped talent (whoever it is we'd identify as a replacement) should be a pacey motherfucker. I love Kane to pieces but if there was one thing missing from his game it's speed. Buy a front line that will tear teams to shreds on the attack, it's a very very effective asset to have.

Lots of player are rapid but still don't offer much. It's important to have pace in the side and I've said before I don't think we have enough of it, particularly in midfield. Winks, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Hojbjerg and Skipp are all slow to painfully slow. But give me someone that can finish (Kane, Cavani) over someone just being really quick every day of the week.

We definitely do need to add pace and legs across the team - that's the biggest thing separating us from the likes of United, City and Chelsea right now.

Whenever we come up against a team of runners we struggle, even lesser sides like Woolwich or Leeds. We have physically deteriorated hugely and that was one of our main strengths under Poch.

Yeah, we're a very slow team. Son doesn't seem to be as quick as he was, and Moura has pace but outside of those you're really struggling. Sessegnon is pretty quick so his return next season would help a little bit if he's part of the squad.
