People will say that he only played 14 games last season, but he did also tear his meniscus in his right leg. That's sort of a valid excuse.

And he was outright good for Bayern on loan. 11 goals and 9 assists in 38 games in all competitions. Bayern just didn't want to take over his wages in full.

Coutinho is a luxury player, but he is a very good luxury player. We know that he is quality when healthy. There's plenty of empirical evidence for that.

Of course he is good player on the grand scale.
But not nowhere as good as the money demanded for him. Hence we don't want to splash that same amount of money. This makes perfect sense to me.

Compared to what he costs and what he produces - he is shit.

Come on, per season he costs more than Kane. Why would we throw this kind of money on a 29yo mercenary who will be here for 1 or 2 seasons + if we'd buy him on permanent basis his resell value is 0.
Let's say Barca sell him to us for 25 mil and he demands 300k per week on 2 years deal. That would cost us 56 (!!) million EUR. And then he leaves on free. Even if he signs for free for same wage and same contract duration, he would still cost 31 million EUR. And all of this will be cost not investment, as he can't be sold on to next buyer.

With Kane money we need to build for future. Not waste it on players who will be here for 2 seasons and leave us in worse position than we were?!?

I'm hoping the combination of Gio and Tubby (Ndombele) in their 3rd season in the PL will compensate for that.
Can you not call our players by derogatory names it is juvenile and shows a lack of respect. I hate when Spurs fans do this why would anyone want to be called by an insults it the exact same thing with what people call Harry Winks. If these players ever read these forums or twitter why would they want to pull on the Shirt for the fans.

Joe agrees.

Shockingly small swimming pool. Do not want.

As much as I hate Levy and ENIC, I'm glad he's running the show instead of 2/3s or this place.

Saying we shouldn't sell for any less than £150m is like being in a club at 11pm and turning down a solid 6. At 12 you turn down a solid 8 because you think you can get that 10.
At 3am you're at the kebab van, on your own, with sick on your shirt slurring profanities at a 3 that walks past because at this stage, it's better than nothing.

We're at 12pm now at Spurs. We have 2 hours to gamble whether to take the 8, because that ain't bad, or wait and see of a 10 comes along

If it doesn't then 3am is the equivalent of Kane sulking for a year or 2 and us only getting a fist full of cash after that time.

Wow, you hate Levy and ENIC, yet you are advocating for them to act stupidly?!?
Incredible.

You just described a situation while being a 18 yo who have had a raging boner for 2 days.

Right now there is a player that has signed a contract with us. Which lasts until he is 31 yo.
We can lock him into reserves for three long years and effectively end his career if we want to. I am not advocating such solution, but I am saying that it is theoretically possible.

Harry does not have all the power. He has contract that is valid, we have fulfilled our end of the deal by paying him tens of millions. Now he has to keep his end as well.

And Levy will make him keep it, or he will leave on acceptable terms. Which is nothing short of 150 mil pounds.

End of.

This was a joke mate!
Sorry, guess it flew over my head

Just that... there are some here who were arguing before last season that we should buy him for 50+ mil.
And it seems to me that there are some who still think that Traore is an elite player... despite the fact that across first 28 games of last season he did not create nor score a single goal.

In such environment it is hard to catch sarcasm at times ;)

Coutinho would be a good pickup on a Bale type deal where Barca pays some of his wages. We’d be doing them a favor taking him at this point. I still think he’s a useful player much like Bale was. But I’d agree he’s not worth spending real money and wages on for many reasons.

Why?

He's bang average. A trier and I've got nothing against him, but along with about 6 or 7 players still on our books he simply isn't good enough if we're a club with ambition to challenge for things.

Well if we move Dier, Sanchez, Toby and now Davies we will need more CB additions than just Romero. Davies might be average but he can cover both LB and CB.

Come on.
What next?

Levy shot Tupac?
Levy organized 9/11?
Levy started COVID pandemic?

It would be really welcome if people would keep in touch with reality.

It is not in clubs nor Levy's interest to leak or fabricate such information. That only puts us to more difficult situation, as everyone would know he wants to leave desparately. This makes our negotiation position worse in every possible way.
Unless the negotiations have already been done. BTW I'm on about Spurs not 9/11 and the rest of your leaps into those other topics.

I understand your recap.

But I disagree with conclusion.
Bale was invisible against strong opposition or not trusted at all.
His contribution against top half teams was 1 assist against Wet Spam and 2 goals against Leicester.

For that we shelled out something like 15 mil EUR for his services and this was 100% cost, 0% investment. I would say that we would be in stronger position if instead of carrying this 15 mEUR cost we would have taken the 16 mEUR we wasted on Doherty and we could have signed better quality player for 31m EUR .. and someone we would still have use now.

Or for that matter if we would have taken this 15 + 16 m and added 13 we paid for Rodon and would have got Skriniar from Inter....

So yea, in my eyes, this Bale deal as it stands was not worth it.

When Kane used to get injured under Poch, we used to destroy teams by fluently rotating Dele, Eriksen, Son and Lucas. It's how we beat Everton 6-2 away (I think). I'm nt saying we're going to have the same level of productivity, obviously not, but we're not going to go from scoring 60 goals in a season to scoring 30 just because we can lose Kane. If we lose him, we have to change the system.
Not that game but Chelsea away was a good example.
