Transfers Summer 2022 Transfer Thread.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I truly believe that when Conte said"we can't afford any more mistakes in the transfer market" he was referring to this sort of a signing.

A lot of money wasted on bang average players, instead of waiting for the right deals to come along.

The amount of deadwood we are trying to shift now is proof of that.
We are not going to buy someone for the sake of buying someone.

And Traore is the definition of a buying for the sake of it player.

You make a fair point.

He wouldn't be a lot of money and we know exactly what we'd get.
He's not like, say, an N'Koudu who was a cheap punt on a total unknown quantity. Nor is he an N'Dombele who was a very expensive punt on a player (we thought) would transform us.
I'd consider giving him a 3 year deal with an option for a further year and just see how he gets on.
Everton only gave Dele a 2.5 year deal. That'll limit the chance he stinks the place up for 5 years if it didn't work out.

I'll honestly be very underwhelmed if we get Adama. I don't get the hype that some people have for him.

I'll give him a chance if it happens. But we can get better players than Adama Traore.

It would seriously seriously fucking annoy me and put a dent on the window and I'll probably grumble for a couple of days but then I'll get over my outrage, start watching some comps, read some articles on how he can change things from the bench and cause mayhem in transition and then think he'll probably do bits for us and thus sucking me into thinking that we'd probably win the league to the point I order a year's supply of baby oil for myself.

But what is "nothing of note"
If you're literally talking directly attributable stats then maybe. Goals/assists may not be eye catching like, say Kulu.
But if statistically much of our game to that point has been played in our 3rd because no one can keep a hole of the ball, and every attempt to go long comes back at us, a player of his type could change that on its head. He can drive not only the ball, but the entire team 30-40 yards further up the pitch and keep doing it. We have other forwards who can pick up the pieces when he gets there. There aren't stats that demonstrate that.
I bet every anti-Traore Spurs fan on here, clenched their arsehole shut as soon as he came on the other week.
I’m not really talking about statistics, as you touched on there are plenty of things players do that aren’t tracked but still have a meaningful impact on the game.

My issues with Traore is based on watching him play against us. Go back a few years and you’re right, I was one who would clench my cheeks when I saw him barreling down the wings. Over the years though that’s all gone away because it never amounted to anything. I can’t remember if it was last season or the one prior but there was a point where he beat every single of our defenders, and still scuffed his shot on goal.

There is no arguing that our forwards are a cut above those of Wolves. But let’s not pretend that Jimenez is some awful player. He did have players around him that should be able to make something of his passes or crosses.

I can’t say I’ve anything from Barcalona so can’t comment on what he’s done or hasn’t done there.

More than happy to eat crow on all of this if we sign him and does make us a more competitive side.

I'm gonna make a bold statement and it's gonna annoy the fuck out of people.

If we did a last minute ditch move for Traore, I think fans will warm to him quite quickly.
By fans, I mean those of you who actually watch 90 minutes of football and not check stats and final scores.
I think for the first few weeks he'll be a novelty, get bums off seats and we'll be thinking he isnt too bad. Then reality will set in and we'll start to see there is absolutely nothing on the end of those runs and for all the pace and energy he is basically a worse, stockier version of Lucas Moura.

Nah mate,

He's a rubbish, nothing signing that won't improve us in any way whatsoever.

He's literally a "no one else available ? He'll do" signing.

Realistically at the point in the window a Gil replacement is going to be a “let’s see” type of loan signing. I can’t see us committing any serious fee/contract towards a player who would essentially be our 6th choice attacking player. Not when we have clearly done our major business already.

When Conte has talked about replacing Tanganga/Gil he always refers to the “numerical aspect” of the squad. So a replacement wouldn’t need to be anything special. Just an adequate pair of legs to play in occasional cup matches and sit on the bench.

James/Traore/Malinovskyi fit that type of role.

I would like to think with our revamped scouting and Don Paratici cooking away for a year we could come up with better options than Traore and James ffs.

Need another name to break today really for it to get done in time.

Carrasco was a glimmer of hope for 45 mins.

So, is this our current squad? By the looks of it, we cannot sign any more foreign players and we lose 2 squad spots for being under quota on home grown numbers + Davies and Doherty not home grown in Europe competitions?

Association trained: Davies, Doherty, Austin , Sessegnon, Foster
Club trained: Kane, Winks, Tanganga, Skipp

Foreign: Royal, Dier, Højbjerg, Lloris, Moura, Sánchez, Son Heung-min, Romero, Golini, Kulusevski, Bentancaur, Peresic, Bissouma, Richarlison, Lenglet

U21: excluded from squad count (Gil, Sarr, Spence)

Total : 22 (up to 25)
HOMEGROWN : 7 (min 8 of which 4 club trained)
FOREIGN : 15 (max 17)
PENTALTY : minus 2 for missing homegrown quotas
Austin is club trained (although I think we could technically leave him out of the 25 man squad altogether and he would be called up to the squad as an emergency keeper if Lloris and Forster were injured, assuming the emergency keeper rule still exists).

I think the squad rules are to have 3 GK's so not sure we can use the emergency rule but its academic - we have no other club trained players to put in his place.
