but it's 150m on top of the pre-existing budget. That should go quite far.

Let's say 80m from all player sales, that gets you Bastoni with 10 to spare. With the remaining 160m you can get a decent RWB for 40m, and a top top CM for 80m, you still have 40m left over to do whatever you need. Get a backup striker for instance.

That 150 million may not go entirely on players. Even if it does it may include wages, bonuses etc.

I highly doubt we'll be blowing 200 odd million in transfers. Would be delighted to be proven wrong, but it doesn't seem likely at all.

Loan squad player, not end of world.

Money isn’t the issue here. He’s probably brought in to be the primary LCB and not a squad player. Takes up another foreign squad slot. It’s one of the positions where we’re all agreed that we need to improve to challenge for silverware and he’s arguably no better than Davies AND unproven in a far more physical league.

This will disappoint me if it happens.

As long as Lenglet is 100% a player Conte wants and is happy with, then I don’t care.

That’s really all there is to it. Give him the team he wants.

Sounds like Bastoni just doesn’t want to leave Inter, so money is neither here nor there. Nothing we can do about that.

Our wages though have been reduced a lot with Bale, Dele, Toby etc off the books so that should be a net positive not negative and that’s before we talk about the 8-10 players probably leaving this summer as well.

Agree with the second part, sadly.
As for Conté’s signings or, at least, signings made on his watch, some of them have been monumentally bad. I wouldn’t leave it up to any single person even Conté. Players changing leagues is even more of a crap-shoot.

Fair point about wages and bonuses, but if we only get 100m of the 150m on top of the existing player sales which is likely to fetch 80-100m, that should be enough to sort out our biggest issues. Just a case of convincing the players.

I was being pretty conservative in my hypothetical. Even if Perisic gets a 10m signing bonus, he's still be pretty cheap. We can get Bissouma for 30m, and lets say agents fees etc add another 10m. That's 50m for two players. We'd still have enough to get ourselves a Gvardiol or Perisic type mega expesive player, with just enoug left over for a RWB.

Of course we'd also free up a lot of wages with the sales too.

If Conte wants Lenglet, then get him. As Olaf pointed out, for Lenglet it's mostly that the atmosphere around Barcelona ruined his confidence, so just like Bentancur, Kulusevski, Coutinho, Gnabry etc. he might just need a change of club to have that confidence again. We could do much worse than Lenglet, however if he's the Bastoni replacement, then I would think Conte wants to go all in for someone like Hakimi and SMS with the funds available...

I can't speak to anything about Lenglet's confidence, mindset etc. However, if it is as reported....I'm torn. Is he mentally tough enough to handle it here? He's going to make mistakes. So what happens when he does? Is he going to spiral here as well?
Has to help him a bit though if he knows Conte believes in him.

I'd love to see it, but have my doubts. People have really lofty expectations and I wonder if it's gonna quite match up to those.

If we're going to go really big on a player though, I'd want it to be a midfielder or RWB. Those are the positions I'd view as worth splurging for. I think we've seen with Davies that a competent player will be enough at LCB.

(As I said earlier, Bastoni the exception there because he's a very unique talent.)

Barca fans think his issue is confidence/mentality since the Bayern thrashing.

“Nothing to do with our managers, it’s really a mental problem.

There were news that he cried numerous times in the dressing room because of his mistakes that led to goals/red cards and there’s some pictures from him crying in his car when leaving Camp Nou after games.

I don’t know what it is, but he has those random moments where his brain freezes and he does ridiculous mistakes.”

If you're gonna provide quotes... Perhaps note who it is that's saying it or better still provide a link.
