I keep seeing this fee of £30m for Bissouma - where did it come from? Is it a release clause or something? Even if it was, we can't be the only team looking at him, if other big boys come in then surely that could still end up much higher, maybe as high as £45-50m even?
It was the fee floating around and with 1 year left on his contract about the best they can hope for. £45-50m likely gets you a player with 2 years left like Neves or Phillips. I'd be happy with any of those 3.

Here I would disagree with you.
I hate Wet Spam and everything they stand for.
But if you put Soucek to decent side where your forwards and defenders are not one-dimentional orcs, his overall play would in fact improve.
He is physically strong. He has quick thinking, good distribution and could hold the ball under pressure.
I would personally take him. Not for any kind of money, ofc, but if it is even borderline reasonable I'd take him.

He seems impressive based on goal metrics, but I put him into comparison with our 3 CMs in PEH, Benta and Skippy + two potential targets in Bissouma and Ward-Prose...
He seems like a WetSpam player alright in this comparison -
Pass completion ~10% below any player except JWP; he makes least touches per 90 (51; at least 10 lower then next players); his progressive passing distance per 90 is clearly weakest; and he does not even make that many tackles nor puts opposite players under pressure.
So let him be Wet Spam player, or let gooners pay themselves crazy for him. If we want to improve on PEH, Benta and Skipp, we need better than him.

There probably will be other clubs interested but just cant see there being a bidding war. Brighton are in a weak position and cant let it drag on all summer. Suspect whatever clubs are interested will bid the required and it will come down to wages and where he fancies going.

Agree. Good player, but we can’t pin everything on him coming. Lenglet on 2 yr loan makes sense in that regards. Focus on other parts of the team and come back in for Bastoni later in window if he changes his mind

I would think there are a few reasons.
One has to be the heart issue and whether Eriksen can be insured to play anywhere in Europe?
That Eriksen, now 30 and as above will not be able to or should expect to start each match.
Third, does Eriksen himself want a lesser role bevause that's what it would be.
As a squad addition I agree it's a no brainer but this is not a completely usual situation.

Plus conte currently seems quite set to start games with 2 in midfield
