Backing Kane up with the guy who should be the backup for Son is certainly a choice.

Gouiri should play on the left off of a proper striker. Not centrally.
This season, Gouiri has played 19 games at CF, and 3 games at LW.
The fact he's versatile is a strength, means he's back up for Kane & Son. Surely that's what we need to lessen their load?

Also, can we stop creaming for Bissouma whilst he is under investigation for assault please?
I did say in the post above, Bissouma only if he's found not guilty. If the trial hasn't happened yet, or he's found guilty, then perhaps we should go for Neves.

Gil (loan recall)
Bentancur & Kulu & Romero- buy permanently

That's the sort of clear out we need if we want this squad to have a chance of winning trophies.
This only happens in football manager universe

I doubt that McNeil is any better than what Spurs already have at LWB. I brought up the topic - i.e. playing McNeil as LWB - and the common consensus was that he's no better than what Spurs already have and he's hardly even played in that position, so it would be a risk not worthy taking for the price he'd cost
Mcneil is a 1 trick pony. Works hard but is so one sided he makes lamela look like a genius on his right

Yeah, it may not work.
But Conte has shown pedigree at converting wingers to WBs.

Also is there any evidence McNeil actually played poorly at LWB? That article had tweets complaining that he should have played LW. If you look at the match result, it was 0-0 and then Switzerland scored the winner after McNeil went off.
He’s an attacking, creative player similar to Gill. I don’t see it. I would like us to play attackers as wing backs in certain periods personally (Berg etc) but don’t see that type of player being first choice WB

He would cost too much money, but I would love Harvey Barnes here. A front three of him, Son and Kane would be outstanding. We could also play Kulusevski deeper, being the link from midfield to attack.

I know this is not going to happen- I've already said that many times.

My point is that our squad needs many out and many in if we are to be competitive- shows the scale of the problem.

The closest Levy has come to a radical window is 15/16. In that summer, he sold 10 players, bought 5, and we also had 5 people coming back from loan.

It's all about the calibre of the new guys and how quickly they integrate.....

If we buy 5 players and 3 or 4 hit the first XI then we are immediately much stronger and the trickle-down improves the bench by proxy.

Saying things like "we need 2 LBs" (eg) is silly and getting carried away.... There is no planet where Reg is not good enough for our squad.

We simply don't need 10 new players to be competitive.

Fact is we''ll end up with players that the big clubs don't want. That doesn't mean we can't still sign some very good players. But it's clearly going to be so difficult to bridge the gap to the likes of Liverpool and Man City etc.

Luis Diaz would have been an outstanding signing for us, but the moment Liverpool came in for him it was game over.

Was it? I thought the consensus on here was that it was another Levy fuck up?

This is almost certainly the case if we go down the Conte/'Proven players with experience' root.

This isn't an Inter/Serie A situation... The level is higher and there's multiple teams at the very top to overcome (rather than just Juve).

Okay, perhaps I was harsh with replacing Reguilon. Also we can keep Rodon as a Dier back up if needed.

But I do think the other positions I identified are in need of improvement. 2 RWBs, PEH replaced, back up CF, new RW, new LCB.

As above; the ins are the key; much like they were in Jan.....

The rush to get rid of everyone's un-favoured players is secondary (subject to boosting the kitty a bit).

I note in your haste, suddenly we don't need a back-up ST anymore or a GK2 either?

The essentials are obvious:

CM (starter)
RWB (starter)
LCB (Starter)
ST2
GK2

...And go from there.

I said back up CF (in the post you're replying to).

I agree with your suggestions; just think we need another RW too. I've been saying for so long, we need another reliable goalscorer to complement Kane & Son. So far I'm unconvinced that Lucas, Kulu, Bergwijn will be that.
