Matt Doherty went from being horrendous for approximately 97% of his time at the club. His three game hot streak seems to have totally convinced people he is the answer. Conte wants to win the league what he did in a godforsaken midtable Nuno team means nothing. We need better. He might stay simply because Emerson actually has some suitors.

Doh would merely be an emergency option on the left..... Which still leaves Perisic & Sess as 1 & 2.

Perisic, whilst regarded as two-footed, has played over 200 games on the left at Inter and 9 on the right.....

He's not merely an "option"; he's blatantly been brought in to be #1 LWB.
I know he’s blatantly been brought in as the first choice LWB and I hoped my final parentheses made that clear

And yes again of course I’m aware doh would be an emergency option

None of that changes my opinion or allays my fears of Sess not being really quite likely to become injured …. Leaving only Peresic

With the rigours of the prem and all the extra games I would prefer to have a left footed wing back as the cover because I don’t fancy one bit the doh on the right emergency fix

Doherty has always been a decent RWB. He was for Wolves and he has shown he can be for Spurs. He’s a converted midfielder and can’t defend.

Square peg, round hole and all that.

He also cost half of what Emerson did.

Whilst I’m not quite as harsh on doh as yourself I absolutely hope Spence impresses

OK this is not a reliable source, but Badashile has been mentioned by a few.

I get the feeling we aren't totally convinced by Torres, particularly after he turned us down, and because of doubts about how he'd transition to a more physical league.

It sounds like Monaco want a lot of money for Badashile, but he fits the bill: left footed CB, 6ft 4, quick, good in the air, but can play too. Ally Gold mentioned a possible swap with Sanchez. Feels like this one has a chance.

Agree, that was my point, I think we need even one more.

An Eriksen-type makes the most sense as we can rotate and also go to a midfield 3 with an attacking option if there's injuries up front as well.

....or even in the 3-4-3 go with one of the more defensive-minded CMs and an Eriksen-type, for instance if we're drawing against a bottom club with 20-30 minutes to go, and they're 100% just sitting in, holding on to the draw.

It's perfectly reasonable to think that those 5/6 games represet the real Doherty more than his disasterous time a Spurs till then. He spent more seasons at Wolves playing like he did in those couple of games than the shit games he played at Spurs.

When he moved here we were playing Mourinho's nighmareball, putting Doherty in a back 4. For whatever reason he didn't hit the ground running. Mourinho insulting him, and leaving him out of the squad only made things worse. Doherty himself said he was contemplating not even getting on the team bus to one of the away games. He was a pariah.

With the arrival of Kulu he clearly found the right partner, someone to play one touch football, to cover him in defence and stay out wide so he can go into the box.
