I mean.... It's the high level combo of creativity and subtlety within this post that I like the most. :pochsmirk:

We certainly have not won the window.
Still no creative midfielder which we have cried out for since Eriksen left.
Still no elite CB which we were told we were going to get this summer.
And of the one we we have signed the only one I’m truly excited about is Bissouma. And potentially Spence.
Reminds me a tad of the Jose season when everyone was ranking us 10/10 - but in reality it was another failure. I called that out at the time.
Would be thrilled if I was wrong.

PEH, Doc and Reguillon all featured heavily last season when we got 4th and our 4th most points total in the PL era.
Devine is one for the future.
Not sure anyone got excited about Rodon and Hart tbh. Guess a few of the hyperdelusional thought Rodon was the best CB ever in the history of football and they're still wondering why he never plays.

Just a reminder that last season was our 7th best in 87 years in the top flight.
You don't achieve that with shit players.
The issue is other clubs are not as well run as ours and a lot of them are skint.
But once they have a couple of poor results some will find the money somewhere to buy most if not all of the players we want to get rid of.
Fly in the ointment is Ndombele who is highly likely to do an Aurier.

To be fair, mate, buying players who have potential to be elite is probably what's stopped us getting over the final hurdle in the past decade or so.
The teams that mean business more often than not get the finished article.
we tried for a couple others and they didnt want to come, so at least we got someone who at one point was seen as an elite CB for barca and is an upgrade on what we have. we also done that without breaking the bank so its not exactly shit business.

playing in a 3 at the back could be just what lenglet needs to get back to his best too, this could be a masterstroke, there was no guarantee that bastoni was going to come in and be a success for us anyway, no transfers ever are guarantees.

He seems to be another of these players that simps for the name-value of clubs..... I mean, he wants to stay at Barca despite them treating him like absolute dirt.

I think it's safe to assume that with equal offers on the table from us, Chavs and United he'd be interested in us the least.
Some players may have that attitude but I really don't think thats the case with de Jong. He's a lieflong Barca fan and I think he's merely adopted the mindset that he's not going to let politics and economics force him out and ruin his dream.

Chelsea perhaps would have an edge but judging by the way he has unequivocally told United to get fucked all summer, I reckon we could certainly make a decent stab at it if we really went balls to the wall for him.

Others have outlined the new salary, deferred salary, and massive transfer fee issue around de Jong.

But the overall squad situation has to be considered too.

There are lots of credible suggestions that we're trying to tie down Harry Kane to a long term contract.

If we sign de Jong on c£400k per week, then Kane will - entirely justifiably - ask for more.

H has delivered season after season for our club, and should not be subject to a hometown discount. Rather, if Kane signs a new contract, he should be rewarded for loyalty and spending his entire peak footballing career with the famous Spurs.

Son too, as PL Golden Ball winner, would be well within his rights to ask for parity or more with de Jong.

So it's not just about "can we afford to sign de Jong?". It's also about the impact such a signing, on crazy Barca wages, of a player who is entirely unproven at PL level, would have on the overall squad salary structure & harmony.

I thought Rodon would have had plenty of suitors in the UK..... It's not like we're charging the earth for him (12m option on his new loan)........

Some of the more Europe-centric players Reg, GLC, TN etc. are a lot more understandable as all the 2nd/3rd tier teams around Europe are broke.
It just occurred to me because of this post....but what if all other also rans of European football banded together and refused to buy the elites donkies? Wouldn't matter how much money the carbon clubs have then...they wouldn't have the squad space to buy anybody.

Obviously some dumb cunt would just view it as an opportunity to get over and finish 7th instead of 14th. But just imagine...

It's speculative on both our parts, but accepting (for argument's sake) your take to be correct....

Why in turn would we want to move heaven and earth to sign someone that doesn't want to leave?

(I said much earlier in the window, but if I'm a Utd. fan right now; I wouldn't want him...... Ditto when Sancho spent a year dragging his heels about a move there too........ I can't say that stance would change much if we were in their shoes right now.)

Chelsea perhaps would have an edge but judging by the way he has unequivocally told United to get fucked all summer......

Cos he wants to stay at Barca..... Let's not forget that he had good times under ETH at Ajax.... I think "unequivocally" & "fuck off" may be a bit excessive on your part.

I reckon we could certainly make a decent stab at it if we really went balls to the wall for him.

In tangible terms, I'm not sure what an increased "stab" amounts to.... Beg him? ...Offer him 500kpw... 600kw?

Sounds similar to what we've been doing with Sarr.

Sign him off the back of a promising first full season in top flight football and then loan him back to the club we signed him from for another year to gain more and more experience. He then comes back, has a pre-season to be further assessed and a further decision is made.

It allows us to keep Perisic around for his experience and a further year or two to see if Sessegnon is going to be able to really take that next step. Though I can't help but feel that this might be last chance saloon for Sessegnon this year. His fifth season in top flight football at the age of 22 and still being questioned over his overall ability.

If Perisic can hit this season running, I think we'd all be happy with Perisic and Sessegnon being #1 and #2 choice for left wing back for the next two seasons whilst Udogie is sent on loan to Udinese next season and then perhaps a Premier League club the following year.

Interestingly, Udogie only signed for Udinese last month.
