And the peace trophy we are loaded with silverware
When £150 million war chest was announced I had a bunch of the more fanatical ones stalking me all over the forum, cock in hand, even though it was exactly what I'd been arguing for for years!
I can’t help but feel like some fans aren’t content with our signings because we’ve not got “big names” and “marquee signings”.Getting excited by proven quality 1st team players is cause for ridicule according to the dark, turgid & miserable world of some.
Seeing us spend 60m on a single bench player is an indicator of us seeking the "cheapest option" according to the same contingent.
The usual pocket of people are so transparently desperate for Conte's tenure to go to shit; it's palpable.
I'd suggest cheering up. The season starts in 48 hours.Don't even need to look to know it's any of about 5 repeat offenders.
Our window has been solid. It hasn't been spectacular. The squad is deeper which is good.
The fact we have Conte probably elevates the signings considerably over what they would be for a Nono type coach.
When the news broke about the mythical £150m kitty though, the ENIC bots were making out as if everyone who doubted ENIC was and still is wrong.
And yet we spent half the window haggling over £12m for Spence. Seem to be identifying cheaper alternatives to the likes of Maddison etc.
The current net spend is what £50m or so?
It's better than some windows, but it's not an all out "go get em" window.
Just to clarify - I'm ok with that. We did it with GLC and TND and now we're stuck with the fuckers.
Conte today has said he wants to build the squad with common sense "the only way I know how"
He's right.
I just think, and I thought months ago, let's wait and see how this all pans out before anyone get's to say they told anyone so.
What has confused you, sir? Matt1882 seems to have understood the post just fine and responded appropriately (which you've liked). Do you need me to simplify it for you?

In regards to ''cheaper options''. Our most successful ever signings have been relatively cheaper ones.

Recently our most succesful signings have been cheaper ones because of abysmal scouting and lack of due diliegence. Its not been the case throughout the rest of our history. We broke the transfer record for Greaves and Gascoigne. Spent big money at the time on Mackay, Archibald, Waddle, Sheringham, Modric and Son etc so totally disagree on most succesful ever signings being cheaper.I'd suggest cheering up. I'm very excited to see a brilliant squad with a full pre-season under Conte get started Saturday. Like every Spurs fan should be. If you can't be positive approaching opening day, what's the point? You don't sound like a barrel of laughs yourself, Andy. If you don't mind me saying.
:dierpochhug:
It's probably half and half. A bit of hyperbole from me. But in the Premier League era our best signings have definitely been the cheaper ones. Blowing 60m on the likes of Ndombele should show people simply throwing money at someone isn't a guarantee for success. As Conte himself has said today, we will purchase with ''common-sense''.Recently our most succesful signings have been cheaper ones because of abysmal scouting and lack of due diliegence. I remember going to Romarios bar, Café do gol, on a Rio beach that I can't remember the name of, (Baha?) In the spring of 99. He was left out of the 98 world cup and had a picture of Zagallo taped on the piss chute. So everybody taking a piss could piss him in the face.Phew! That's a relief. Afraid we'd have to suffer average/functional MFers like last season.
Romario?
I feel sorry for the chavs....I think they're in for a bad time with this guy....I'd prefer them to be a challenger because it makes the games more interesting for us. And everyone else.If someone wants to run a football club as a money making business, you don't buy one got 4 billion quid and inherit a squad full of some of highest paid players on the planet
There's more chance of Newcastle being run as a responsible business that grows slowly and organically. £300m vs £4bn
Let that sink in
The OWNERS, mate. Not the CLUB
*these stepford supporters really need to start distinguishing between the two*
Anyhow, that aside, 1 Carling Cup in over 2 decades, and 0 trophies in 15 years, for a club of our size and wealth surely indicates I have a very valid point.
The stats don't lie, my friend, whichever way you want to spin them
Edit: Big thanks totodd1882 for enlightening me to the term "Stepford fan / supporter"
I think I'll be using it quite a lot in the future
From 2016 to 2020 i'd say all our signings were average to dreadful, be it expensive or cheap. Before that the majority were a decent price at the time, the ones i listed were all pricey but also Keane, Defoe, Berbatov, Vertonghen, Dembele certainly werent cheap signings at the time. Where we were good was buying youngsters on the cheap. It's probably half and half. A bit of hyperbole from me. But in the Premier League era our best signings have definitely been the cheaper ones. Blowing 60m on the likes of Ndombele should show people simply throwing money at someone isn't a guarantee for success.
Nah, when the £150 million cash infusion was announced, you were on here taking credit for your years of criticism and claiming all your hard work had paid off. Classic narcissistic behavior that even Trump would be proud of. Probably one of the most embarrassing posts I’ve ever seen on here. When £150 million war chest was announced I had a bunch of the more fanatical ones stalking me all over the forum, cock in hand, even though it was exactly what I'd been arguing for for years!
,,,
Now they're saying something like "ah, but it may be spread over 3 or 4 windows dear"

Not yet we don'tStaying in the top 4 for most of the last 10 years beats relegation and the odd Carling Cup!
We now have the platform to tell City and United to fuck off unlike in the past.
We need to stop fucking about and buy a first eleven standard attacking midfielder.
Not a development prospect. Someone that’s good to go.
We're still very weak on the right. It's going to be our Achilles heel. Still time to do something but I haven't a clue who. Doc is not class...Spence is still a bit of a mystery....Royal...no!Yeah I get same impression from his stats/ highlight reels.
At any rate, it does seem like our left is considerably stronger than our right.
As a backup to Kulusevski or for the CM role?We need to stop fucking about and buy a first eleven standard attacking midfielder.
