As for Chelsea paying for players that City won't - is it possible that City are actually nervous about FFP?
They've come close to being kicked out of the Champions League twice.

City have vastly more wealth than Chelsea in terms of sugar daddy owner. But Chelsea are throwing it about quite a bit more.

Believe it or not City have a budget and always try stick to it, it's why they wouldn't pay what we wanted for Kane, same for Van Dijk, Maguire, Jorginho etc..

Some weird takes on Romano in here. I watched a short documentary on a day in his life and he's anything but a tap-in merchant. Obviously he's not ITK in the truest sense but he doesn't just sit behind a computer copying other sources. Pretty sure from what I remember he has a decent sized network with whom he is constantly chasing for info.
I bet that was a fucking boring documentary

Toes are bastards. Many a year ago I injured my toe simply kicking a football (Very poor technique). Pain for weeks due to walking being quite integral.

My mood has improved in advance of tomorrow.
Today the massive pain I was suffering has all but gone. Spoke to a GP on the phone and he seemed convinced it was more like gout than anything else.
I barely drink a drop and am fighting fit so not sure how that happened. But I'd rather something like that than a broken toe that keeps re-breaking.

My walk from Seven Sisters tomorrow will not be a hobble, but a rather confident stride now :)

Forster
Perisic
Bissouma
Lenglet
Richarlison
Spence
Zaniolo
Udogie

How are we rating that kind of potential window our of 10 then if it happens? Looks pretty good to me.

A very solid 8/10 which might rise depending upon how Spence, Lenglet and Zaniolo perform.

Some of the players such as Persic and Bissouma some will say are 'first teamers' and the others not but in a season with the World Cup takes a full month out of the season (no reduction in games so game frequency is high - and international players may arrive back knackered) our ability to rotate the squad to rest them will be tested as in no other previous season.

To illustrate that point with a few of the players :

Forster - 2nd GK played half the PL games last season including MOTM v Woolwich causing them to drop points which is one reason we made CL and they did not. Last England call up earlier this year. Whilst we don't 'want' to play him but play Lloris all the time - if Llloris is not available, he'll be a much better reserve than Gollini or most of our no 2's for some years (maybe last good 2nd GK was Vorm ?). HG as well so takes up a vacant space and allows us to get an extra Overseas trained player in to enlarge squad.

Lenglet - One of the most unknowns, will he look like he was last season with Barcelona or the layer he was when he arrived, a potential world star. Nobody knows but Conte might turn his career around. Small snippets, but at least we now have cover for Ben Davies at LCB next season. He's on loan so if it doesn't work out we get another LCB next summer, if it does work out we have opportunity to buy from Barcelona. So a solid back up for Davies or someone better, so a solid signing even if uninspiring.

Richarlison - Brazil's starting centre forward (replacing Jesus). Excellent goal scoring cover for Son and Kane. We've wanted this for years. Great option to have.

Then there are the 'certain starters :

Persic - top player at Inter as they won Italian league, so say no more. Maybe useful as mentor to Sessegnon and Spence to show them how to be a world class wingback. Top signing.

Bissouma - Regarded by many as best CM outside top 3 teams last season. Top signing. Now gives us a great selection of CM's with any two from Bissouma, Bentancur, Skipp and Hojbjerg.

Then there's youngsters :

Spence - Over 100 Championship appearances (actually closer to 140 ?) plus played with Notts Forest in FA Cup run beating Leicester and Woolwich (scoring a goal), losing to Liverpool (no disgrace for Forest) but playing well in general against 3 PL teams in top half of table. IMO chances of him being a flop in PL next season are vanishingly small based upon experience to date. Just a question of whether he becomes a top player or mid -table player, which might take 2 seasons to answer. Despite TFC's world renowned scouting only PSG's Hakimi looked a class above Spence at RWB (but he's not for sale, even with a £80m type value) and others from weaker leagues weren't guaranteed to be better - so a calculated signing, and HG so not taking up a space.

Udogie - Seems to be rated as potentially world class by many. Versatile as can play LCB and LWB so might well help Spurs in a couple of positions, but likely from 23/4 onwards.

Transfer windows are about taking advantage of the available players - and it seems to me we've brought in a good selection of players both for next season and next few years. Have we missed out on some signings - possible but not many. And that's despite having the funds available to sign players early without a need to sell players first.

We will also have funds available for next summer to have another good window by looks of things which is excellent news. Will keep Conte interested too !

Still need to deal with Ndombele, Lo Celso, Rguilon and Winks future ....... and hopefully we will in remaining 3 weeks or so of window

We don't specifically need an attacking midfielder, or a 10. Whatever you want to call it. We do need more craft in midfield. Liverpool themselves saw the need for this and went out and got Thiago, and they're the team with the most creative wing backs in the world, and one of the best systems out there. They also spent 50 million on Keita years before.

We have functional midfielders. The myth Conte has won stuff with just these before is just that, a total myth. His Juventus midfield was elite, his Chelsea midfield relied hugely on the ridiculous star that is Kante & Fabregas to come in when creativity was required. His Inter team had Eriksen as an option with Barella, Brozovic, Sensi etc.

The man loves versatility, that's clear from his past midfield options. We don't have a versatile midfield, we have a stable midfield. It will cost us in numerous games this season if it isn't addressed, as it has done in the past.

We need our central midfielders to play the ball quicker for one. Luckily for us, we've gone from having Winks and Hojbjerg as a guaranteed starting two to having potentially Bissouma and Bentancur who could be the most complimentary central midfield pairing in the Premier League if they hit it off.

It's been a long time since we've had a midfield two that not only has composure but also find themselves at ease on the ball. Neither of them are ever rushed, they're constantly aware and are always looking forward. Neither of them may be on a Thiago level but they're both bloody good footballers.

Both of which are massive upgrades on Naby Keita too, and both of them combined cost less.

I don't think I've seen or heard anyone ever say Conte has won stuff with functional midfielders. He stumbled across a Pirlo who was a free transfer. Already had Fabregas at his disposal at Chelsea (And wanted to get rid of him) and then was presented with an opportunity to sign Eriksen at Inter Milan (Which he didn't want in the first place).

And unless we happen to stumble across a free transfer, someone at a cut price who can come in, work hard and play in this system, I see no reason why we should look to spend on a position we're covered in. Central midfield for me is the least of our worries behind our attack.

I don't think our midfield has lots of versatility but it's certainly versatile. Bissouma, Skipp, Bentancur and Hojbjerg couldn't all be different from one another. None of them may not have Eriksen style laser vision or Thiago's guile but in this system where we create more chances than every team not named Liverpool or Man City, I'd say that's okay.

If you're Woolwich, Man Utd or one of the other teams that'll be competing to be 'The best of the rest' - you're not going to be looking forward to playing up against our central midfield. I think, by just looking at the profile of the options we have there, I'd be surprised if we saw our centre get overrun again like we saw numerous times last season against much inferior teams. Southampton, funnily enough, being one of them.

Though, I am interested. Who do you think we should be looking at to improve our central midfield options that in your eyes provides the versatility we apparently need, offers 'craft' and some sort of creativity that is not only available but works hard for the team, would be able to physically handle the Premier League, would be happy with rotation and is affordable?
