We agreed some kind of loan with option of 50 mill with Roma and That is what Jose stopped from going through, but it goes on to say something like they'd accept 50 million in cold hard cash, no loan but that we are not willing to do that deal so he will stay and sign a new deal.

He was not as good last season as he was in the 2020-21 season. Real M. was also said to be interested in him last summer but so far none of the "big" clubs have made any (acceptable) bids (yet).

A €40m 'gamble'? You make it sound as though he's available for £10m or something like that. I know all transfers are gambles to some extent, but if it were me, I certainly wouldn't want to spend €40m of my money on something that someone was happy to describe as a 'gamble'. :/
Might as well just buy a 100 metre runner then.
