Transfers Summer 2022 Transfer Thread.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Quite an interesting thread on the transfer market and charlatans like Schira and how transfers and rumours get reported making it difficult to see the wheat from the chaff. Answer is, don’t believe everything you read.

He made 8 passes into the final third yesterday. Hojbjerg made 11.
He made 34 forward passes. Hojbjerg made 40. Bentancur made 34 also.

Contrary to belief, our midfielders do actually pass the ball forward. He's got good technique and he's a good footballer. But I have a hard time believing that he's all that much Hojbjerg and Bentancur.

He's a good set piece taker. But signing a defensive midfielder for the sole purpose of his set pieces seems a little redundant. Especially when we've scored 3 goals from set pieces already this season out of the 7 goals we've scored.

I actually like Neves too. I just don't think he's good enough to warrant splashing huge money on when he's not really any better than what we have in our squad. Central midfield is arguably our best position depth wise. Bissouma and Skipp waiting in the wings.

I thought Moutinho looked better than him yesterday personally. And they went to absolute shit when he came off the pitch.
100% this. Neves is a perfectly fine player, but his ability has been ridiculously overblown because he scores a few bangers every year. There is far better value out there.

Who cares about value? We’ve done v well recently with regards to value and can afford to overpay for the right player

People do overblow goal scorers but I rate Neves beyond the odd banger. Good player

I wouldn’t sign him tho unless one of our four left, and that’s unlikely. Personally I would sell PEH if there was interest in ex for Neves

I said Conte won't change his system. That's a fact. Occasionally switching it up to allowing three in midfield or mid game to a 424 isn't changing his system. It's adapting to his opponent. Neither of which particularly suit Maddison.

Potatoe, potato.

343, 523. Whatever, I guess.

"And if they do, it's because the opponents tactics have been spot on or have specifically targeted midfield as a way of beating us"

Chelsea specifically targeted the midfield by making a 4 man square around our midfield two, using their right wing back in the process. There's a reason 18 other Premier League teams don't try the exact same trick.

Wolves didn't overrun our midfield at all today. They were just braver on the ball in possession when they did have it. Hence why in the second half when Conte had clearly grilled them at half time, did we boss that midfield entirely. So much so that they tried to switch things up by taking Moutinho off.

The issues we had under Poch and Mourinho are nothing like any sort of problem we have under Conte. Poch for most of the end of his tenure and Mourinho had Winks and Sissoko in midfield. One of the worst central midfield pairings any team aspiring for a top four finish have ever had. They actually did regularly get overrun because Sissoko was horrible positionally and Winks was awful at defending transitions and covering large amounts of space quickly.

Conte has no such problem because Hojbjerg and Bentancur are fantastic at what they do and what's asked of them. We've played against a midfield three of Man City, a midfield three of Liverpool. Two of the best teams in the country and not once were they ever overran. It's actually rare to see it happen.

I've always wanted to see Kulusevski central for us, personally.

I've wanted us to play a 352. Sorry, a 5212. With Kulusevski playing central behind Kane and Son and wing backs that attack. But we haven't seemed to try that out as of yet. Which surprises me considering Conte's preference of that particular formation at Inter Milan and Kulusevski wanting to be more of a #10.

The fact Conte didn't bring Bissouma on sooner tells me that he knew midfield wasn't an issue. In that first half in particular, we were constantly looking to just start again, stop the ball, or hook an aimless clip down the line just to relieve pressure. It was the players choice to not play with any bollocks and to lack courage in that first half. They showed more in that second half and you could tell in the performance.
After today's scores maybe it's time to reevaluate - Chelsea are shit, yet outplayed us through MF, wolves ain't much better yet out played us through MF. Yeah we can get better but right now the fact is we need more in MF.

kulu ain't a 10, he is a wide man, always has been and is very apt at playing deeper. I'm not suggesting conte seek to make big changes but some times we need more in MF. As in proper functioning MF, not backs or attacking players - actual MF

Shit performances and score lines end up reflecting each other eventually. Poch learnt the hard way, Jose learnt the hard way.

Not you again

We need something else. What that is I don’t know exactly. Another crisp and quality passer. We have conceded control and been on the back foot too often so far. Not sure if we’d be better with an AM or another guy who can play in a 2. Real quality at RWB would be nice but clearly not happening and not really out there.

Is Skriniar likely to bring the on-the-ball quality that people constantly criticise our CBs over?

If not, surely he's not the guy and people are just thirsting for name value?

.......Paying mega-bucks(*) for a somewhat better version of Dier solves little.

(*PSG bids have been rejected so Inter must be demanding a he'll of a lot!)

He is good on the ball, very good but not Romero or Bastoni level. I have watched him quite a bit and it’s all opinions but he is minimum Rudiger level, he is like a bigger stronger peak Toby if I was to describe.

He is a leader and a brilliant one on one defender who can play multiple defensive positions. He would significantly again just in my view upgrade us.

I’ll be devastated if we sell Gil. Give the lad a few years ffs
I highly doubt we’re selling. Valencia were only able to register all their players because they sold Guedes to Wolves, they’re skint.

Also highly doubt we’re feeling any real pressure to sell Gil. He’s young, likely on pretty low wages, and relatively coveted in Spain. Even if he’s not in the long term plans, letting him play a year on loan and hopefully building his value is far more sensible than selling at a cut rate price due to La Liga being skint.

Really hoping to hear some news this week on incomings. Seems like Gil, Reggie, and Sarr will all go at least on loan. Should open the places necessary to bring players in. Hopefully Winks goes too but I’m less concerned about that as at least he isn’t holding a foreign player slot.

When he goes back to Spain and turns into David silva you will be

If we can get our money back for Gil then I’d sell him. Just don’t think he has the profile to fit the PL

Very small. He looks like someone’s kid sitting on the bench.
Not fast enough to make up that size.
Does he have the offensive skills to play in Son or Kulu’s spot? I don’t think so.

Certainly not strong enough to play CM. Odds of him turning into Silva have to be very low considering he’s never played that position.
