If he's good enough he will supplant Van Hecke. If he backs himself he won't worry about being "seconds fiddle," he'll be vying for top spot.
To be clear here, I'd also like him back this coming season, but if the above happens then I'm also fine with that. We get him contracted for longer, give him a further year to refine his game in a less demanding league, then get him into the fold to push for that starting berth.
If he's as good as we all believe he will be, it's Van Hecke who will be getting itchy feet, playing "second fiddle."

If your scouting team knows their shit, they don't have just Van Hecke on their radar. He ain't the only solid defender, be it in the PL or abroad.
Say we don't get him for whatever reasons, I'm honestly fine with Micky, Senesi, Kev, Vusko and Ben as our CB options. If De Zerbi decides to send Vusko back out on loan, then keep Ash and see what he's got. Young Jun'ai can help out with a few cameos here & there, as can Pally & Archie.
Big money should be spent on attacking players first, cause they're all either injured or shite...some being both.
