If we stay up, which is very far from certain, the next 2 years will be about making sure we have some kind of stability as a mid-table team. To jump from where we are to the top 4 or even top 5 is just fantasy.
But i dont think it is fantasy? With the right manager, no injury crisis, and only playing a game a week next season and 3 quality signings we could easily get back into the top 5. Villa will have to sell again in summer and apparently their manager wants out, Chelsea are falling to pieces with a bunch of their best players wanting out.

If our players stayed fit under de zerbi next season with a hypothetical team of (providing madds and kulu look good again) we could get top 6

Can we try Austin once? Sheesh... as I recall he acquitted himself surprisingly well when called upon under Ange...
I do get your point. But he is 27 now. He has been at Spurs since he was 17 and has played just 3 first team games. A succession of managers have obviously not see anywhere near enough to give him a go. The only reason he played the 3 games is because he was our only available keeper in the senior squad. I think he likes his position as the 3rd keeper for a PL side. 10k a week and zero stress.

They had a better base to start from - people don’t like him but we have nobody as good as Bruno Fernandes, who also never gets hurt - and they added Mbeumo and Cunha while we were signing Simons and Gallagher.,.
Most thought Simons was going to be a good signing, myself included. He's struggled with the pace and physicality of the game here. Lately we seem to sign a lot of players that can't handle the PL or we are not giving to them the right coaching to adapt.

We are not signing Wharton and the likelihood is that Romero and Micky will be gone but I am onboard with your point. Two or three good moves, a few key players staying fit, loan players like Moore and Vuskovic back and strengthening the sqaud and the youngsters like Gray and Bergvall kicking on again and there is no reason not to be optimistic.

Things change fast in football, I dont think thats fantasy at all

- We stay up, RDZ has a 7 game bootcamp to get the players on his wavelength and also assess them
- Season close, WC, RDZ can line up the targets he wants
- Summer window = 3 or 4 good buys, and a clear out of deadwood
- Pre season, in effect a second preseason, RDZ can seriously bed things in with the squad and have them where he wants them
- New season, 1 game a week to prepare for

I see no reason at all why we shouldnt be right in the mix for the top 6/top 4

The fun thing will be the season after, when europe comes back and we need to manage all the extra games etc - thats prime RDZ has a tantrum territory....

I think Micky will stay, but yeah romero will go but not the end of the world. I agree, I doubt wharton would come unless De Zerbi could convince him hell make him a better player etc.

I still have mixed feelings on Wharton

Hugely talented player, obviously, but I do wonder how he might fare outside of Palace - a team largely set up around him

In one sense, in a RDZ side looking to make artificial counters, looking to pass through the lines, I think he might do well

In another, I wonder if he has the all round game and legs to fit in properly - or become someone who needs accommodating

I don't think RDZ is going to cause any trouble here. He's effectively part of the club leadership now with a big role over recruitment and player development. He has way more authority here than he did at Marseille or Brighton.

Some of those are on very thin ice with me at least.
I thought Porro was really poor against Forest. The way he let Hudson-Odoi go past him to set up their second was just terrible defending. Udogie was really bad when he came on as well.

The Palace team isn't set up around him as far as I'm concerned. He's a player that has got in very well to the system they play. We don't know if he could be a good dictator in the middle of the pitch, because tactically, that's not how palace play. They look to move the ball quickly, often through his ability to play very clever passes and the ability to hit runners.

I have no doubt that he'd be a great fit in a more possession based system, his passing is great, his close control is great, his awareness is great.

Against us, when they did have plenty of the ball, he was unbelievable, our midfielders couldn't get a foot in. Him and Anderson are about as sure things as you can get as far as I'm concerned. Cracking player.
