Doesn't really work like that. Players typically go for close to full price when there are 2 years left on the deal. It's at one year when it really drops off, although if a player's in high enough demand you can still sometimes get a massive fee.
E.g. clubs were offering 65m for Guehi when he had 2 years left on his deal, and we apparently offered 55m going up to 70m in Jan when he only had 18 months left. Palace held on a season too long but could've made bank if they wanted.
Other examples: Rice, Isak, Havertz, Alvarez - all huge fees with 2 years left.
Then the real superstars like Kane and Hazard can go for 100m+ with just 1 year left, although tbf they're the exception.
