3 goals and 1 assist in his apparent great breakthrough season. Before that 0 goals and 0 assist, before that 1 goal and 1 assist. 0.7 key passes a game. I mean there's a lot of stats that point exactly to "meh" but I get it..

He has good ball control and looks silky on the ball so productivity doesn't matter I guess.
Rice has 4 goals and a couple of non-set piece assists. Is he not productive enough too? Productivity is not what I’m looking for from central midfielder. I’m looking at can they take the ball under pressure and move it on. Can they win the ball back?

Is Scott really a 6? I saw he played there occasionally under Iraola. If he can play there I am 100% sold and need zero convincing. If he is not that and is instead a 8/10 hybrid runner like Bergvall Sarr Gallagher, then I have questions.

I’d be happy to accept a decent offer for Bentancur tbh. He’s become very injury prone. Also depends on how often De Zerbi plans to use Gallagher in the 10 because that’s the only place he’s used him so far.,

IMO something like this:

DM: Baleba, Fernandes, Locatelli
8: Scott, Gray
10: Simons, Gallagher, Maddison
I was all for selling Bentancur earlier in the season, but he showed his value in the run-in (we only started playing with anything resembling a structure once he got back in) and he’d be an ideal rotational piece.

For me it’s:

Stiller Bentancur Gray
Scott, Gallagher (plus Porro in Emergencies)

Bissouma & Sarr out, Bergvall, Olusesi, Russell-Denny loaned.

Summer 2027 recall Bergvall, Sell Gallagher & Bentancur. One of the returning youth can surely have a squad place.

This is forward planning.

In 2027 we’d have Luca Williams Barnett ready to bolster the AM ranks too.

The attitude English fans have towards midfields goes a long way to explaining why the national team keeps coming up short.

Control the play, protect the defence, supplement the attack.

I think Gallagher will be used as the backup 10 to Madders until Xavi is back

With Kudus injury update our current front 4 options are made up of Tel, Solanke, Richarlison and possibly Moore, with the injury prone Maddison as our 10. Thats it. Forget Kulu , Simons and Odobert. I'd suggest thats more of a priority than midfield at the moment, although we obviously need a passing 6 this summer.

Well I mean for one you can't just take away his set piece assist lol...he has 4 goals and 5 assists.

He is also 91% percentile for chances created in the whole league in his position.

They need to deliver a massive window.
Lange strikes again ...

RW is also looking bleak given the state of Kudus and Kulu's injuries. Something will need to be done there.

It's essentially a whole new starting front line required. United did it last summer after losing to us. It can be done despite what the ENIC apologists on here will tell you.
United have also been my template. They had a big summer not in quantity but in quality. Thats the exact type of window we have been lacking.

Cunha: immediate starter, proven, £60m
Mbeumo: immediate starter, proven, £60m
Sesko: starting striker, potential, £80m
Lammens: starting keeper, £20m

Just 4 senior players brought in. But each of them directly improved the 1st team in positions of need. It isn’t rocket science. And it doesn’t even need to be PL-proven established players as Lammens shows. Just buy quality.

There's been a narrative/push for the last half decade or so where every player, no matter position except for keeper, was judged on if they contributed with goals and assists.

Bit weird since you'd think that a defender would solely be judged on how good they are at defending.

You can supplement the attack without g/a.. some incredible midfielders don’t get much g/a. They’re the guys supplying the assisted. I’d be looking at progressive passes, runs etc rather than goals and assists.

Obviously if they can provide a killer ball and smash one in from 40 yds it’s a bonus but it’s not a necessity imo.

I suspect Maddison will go back to his 10 role on the left side next season, Gallagher will play slightly deeper as the 8 on the right alongside the sitter.

I’m not convinced Maddison will play much.

It depends on what version of De Zerbi ball we will see but before Spurs he was using players like Mitoma out wide.

If he’s doing 10’s wide like he did with Xavi and Maddison then maybe we don’t even sign a LW?
