I hope we don't go for Trubin, as I read in the Portuguese press today. He's too error prone and Benfica will be asking for a significant sum. We have too many holes that need filling in our squad and that will cost us a lot of money. Kinsky really stepped up this last couple of months, so I would give him that starting spot. I don't think we should invest too much of our budget in a keeper. On that, I really like Lukas Hornicek from Braga. Still young (23yo), had his second season as a starter and was absolutely stellar. Their defence is shit, so he had his work cut out for him. He was one of the main reasons they reached the Europa League semis and I'm sure we could get him for 15-20 million euros. He would give Kinsky a run for his money and that would allow us to free up some funds to strengthen other positions.

Firstly, this is a mealy mouthed response from the CEO. Completely dodging the question.

But at the end, this would have to be the first admittance from anyone in the ENIC bubble that our wage structure hasn't been fit for purpose.

The first step is always acknowledgement and acceptance, and hopefully this relegation scare has humbled the executive and ownership enough to enact change. Meaningful change.

Absolute nothing burger. What has experience got to do with anything? We had Solanke and Richi who are undoubtedly experienced, what we lack, is ability.

More lip service, as to be expected.

Are we likely to get them though?

which has been our consistent problem in the past 10 years.

It's the kind of move you make to keep a player that helps you get over the top to being a squad that can legit compete for a title or major trophy. For a team like us where our best years are at least a season away, and more like two seasons away or not happening at all, it's not really the kind of calculated risk you want to be taking.

especially when it's players that have already proven to not be doing it.

we were never building a squad around Dier, Rose, or anyone else there was keener interest in at a larger fee. People complained about the 'staleness' of the squad, but the right thing Fergie always did was recycle the dynamic every season or so - push out a big player, bring in a fresh big signing with a couple of prospective purchases. Not liverpool style where you murder the culture in one window

I don't think his defending is as bad as many say

If he is expected to run the entire right hand side both offensively and defensively he's been exposed

He's not perfect, at all, but also he is entirely functional in a back 4 in a team set up properly

See RDZs time so far
No, I agree with you, he is not, but he does have a tendency for the occasional brain fart, and those tend to be quite loud at times. And yes, he seems to have improved with RdZ, give or take an error or two, though the sample is still quite small. Still, like I said, I would only let him go if we can identify a replacement that's a clear upgrade on him, and I don't trust that will be easy.

It’s not a matter of him running up and down, it’s just that he’s got leaden feet when any winger with pace runs at him. See George at the end when Kinsky makes the save against Everton.

Everybody seemed perfectly able to understand that when we were a big team buying players from smaller clubs, it wasn't realistic for them to hang onto them. Maddison, Kudus, and Richarlison all joined us from lower PL teams who would much rather have kept them if possible.

Now that we have made decisions resulting in us becoming one of the weakest sides in the league, people act as though they don't understand why we might not be able to keep the likes of Porro. We couldn't keep the likes of Sheringham, Carrick, Keane and Berbatov from joining bigger PL sides, despite our late 90s/2000s teams performing much more strongly than our current squad.

You don't get to just choose to act like a big club again. You have to earn it on the pitch - and yes, it's much harder to reach that status than it would've been to maintain it. Choices have consequences.
