Alasdair Gold just suggested that there’s a chance there might be an obligation to buy for Ndombele if Napoli qualify for UCL next season
That would be a massive result no matter how much. With Moura, Lenglet and Danjuma all finishing contracts/loans and hopefully free transfers for Hugo and Perisic that would be a fairly decent start to a much needed clearout. Would still leave Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon, Reggie, Winks, Lo Celso maybe Dier, maybe Sess to go.

Well the whole point at hand was about playing to our attacking WBs strengths. Add to that Kane often operating like a false ten.... I don't really see the conflict with regards to the above.

Poch's best team was reliant upon the front 3 to do most of the creating and scoring too.... Walker & Rose provided aggression and energy; not G&As and Dembele/Wanyama provided next to fuck all on that front too.

However, if we don't at least have aspirations for Porro/Udogie (and Spence?) to be productive in this sense then why bother with them at all? .......Might as well just play Emerson & Davies and go back to living in a Jose mid-block world.

(....None of this is to say we couldn't experiment with the likes of Kulu or Gil as one of the #8s either.)

I see your point about pace; but there's more than one way to skin a cat.... Including the way were racking up goals for fun during the second half of last season. Meanwhile, who's to say whatever new CBs we get can't ping a pass or two?

Son & Kane currently come with obv. question marks regarding the future, granted; but one can assume we'll seek to replace them and in doing so can focus on whatever suits our system best.

I just think this summer is more about key signings and unlocking the genuine potential that lies in a lot of these players...... Yes; we have a lot of deadwood to shift, but the answer to getting up and running again next season isn't some 10out/10in window.

We have strong wing backs but we don't essentially have a CM at RB who will get guarantee double figures for xA. That's what Liverpool had with this system and how they got away with a very functional midfield. 12, 12 and 13 assists from Trent in the seasons they challenged. 11, 12 & 10 from Robertson. I think to expect this from Porro & Udogie would be a lot, and you'd be better off having at least one creative minded midfielder to help with the burden.

Poch had Eriksen - 13, 15, 10 & 12 assists at his best. Who out of Skipp, Bentancur and Hojbjerg/Bissouma do you think takes on this burden? We had Walker & Rose AND a designated more creative mid. This is why we need to go out and sign a Maddison (or someone of this type) so we have someone who we can rely on for creativity. There's not enough of them in this team.

The way we were playing 2nd half of last season wasn't sustainable. I said this at the time and have been vindicated I feel.

We don't need 10 in or ten out. We need 5 players in imo (gk, lcb, creative midfielder, ccb, wide player) to start looking a team consistently. Obviously that comes with the caveat of those players need to actually work out, so we need 5 successful signings. In an ideal world more than one wide player, but 5 is the minimum imo.

lloris has one more year on his contract, club captain. I'd be very suprised if he leaves in the summer. More likely he goes when his contract is finished and gets the Vertonghen treatment

he can use his left foot alright hahah. the outside the boot has become a bit of his trademark. outside the foot has always been a bit of a connoisseur hallmark

Of course he can use his left foot. He's a fucking professional footballer.

But no one questions why right footers don't use their left. That stereotype is saved for left footers.

Why?

Are left footers lazy?

Porro has 8 assists so far this season and Destiny has 3 but plays for a mid table team, could work as long as we get an attacking coach with another creative Midfielder

actually striking a ball with accuracy with the weaker foot is the hardest thing you can do in football. all pros should be able to control and give simple passes with the weak foot.

the left footed thing is true i think. theres loads of right footers who are competent with their weak foot, theres barely any left footers. i think ousmane dembele is the only one i can think of? i couldnt give you another left footer who youd say has a good right foot.

im not even sure dembele is left footed lol i think hes ambidextrous

Would normally agree but if you have a long-term plan that you are recruiting towards then you hire a manager to coach the squad you are building not the other way around.

We are partially in the mess we are in because we kept bringing in players for managers then firing them.

On that note, maybe Gretar and the other dude are just continuing with the plan and Maddison and Ugarte will be players the new coach will have to work with.

To be honest, any manager that doesn't want to work with Maddison and Ugarte is probably a manager we don't want.

If we really are chasing and signing these 2, it probably reflects well on the club actually having an idea what they want to do long term.

Read your post back to yourself. Then put it in the context of Levy.
You're gonna crack up, trust me.

According to Cowling we're supposed to be in for some African wonderkid, he's so great even the mighty Notts Forest after after him! Here we go again, more money wasted on kids when we need to be dealing with the current mess we are in. I guess Levy is having a last hurrah before the football guy comes in and does something sensible for a change (we hope).

Ginola?

Whenever I see that name always makes me wonder why young cows are called Calves instead of Cowlings. Would make much more sense.

He does a great job of covering Spurs as well tbf

Edit: also looks a bit like Poch.

Good. Clearly Spurs are terrible at buying expensive talent. Much rather go back to trying to spot young potential

How do you rate Ugarte?
He is already one of the best ball winning midfielders in Europe. Sporting went out in the group stages but he still has the most tackles completed in the whole Champions League this season.

He has a great passing range but the most impressive thing about him is his ball carrying. He’s a superb ball winner but also a very technical player. Really similar to Moussa Dembele

Unfortunately I can see Newcastle, Chelsea or Liverpool getting him before us, unless we sell Hojbjerg

Dunno...

We have a relationship with Sporting and they are tough to deal with unless the player is a Mendes player and Wolves want them.

We have been chasing Ugarte the longest as well.

Then there is agent Porro.

If by “relationship” you mean Sporting knows they can fleece us. Then sure.

Those Porro negotiations were anything but friendly.
Sporting pulled a fast one on us/Porro's posse, didn't they? (altering the deal on the final day)

Seem to recall it was Levy credited with forcing the deal through by hook or by crook. I wouldn't be surprised if we thought "fuck that" about dealing with them again any time soon.

If he's worried about not getting play time ahead of Hojberg, that's a character I'm not sure we want here 😅
