Pondering Season 9 GIF by The Office

Don't want to be carried away but I think we are one CB away from fightin for the title, in theory. This squad is probably the best I can remember since I started to support Spurs and we have at least one top notch player for every position. Also we aren't playing in Europe, so less games and less travel. Really excited for this season, as you can see!
I hope I'm wrong but I think you are (carried away)...

At the moment we have a real weakness in the LW with Son starting, can't see it happening without him either suddenly finding form, Ange dropping him for Perisic, or Ange changing his role from wide player to inside forward.
How have you people forgotten how Perisic has actually played for Spurs?! Did a man in a black suit visit and wipe your memory? If we're counting on him, we're double fucked.

Don't want to get carried away but you're gonna get carried away anyway 😆

Eze to me isn’t just a central 10 to spell Maddison. That’s a very stifled unimaginative way of using him. I really think he would be the Bernardo Silva for our system and could be absolutely brilliant, versatility to play the wing and be a central and wide playmaker. One thing that Perisic has that others don’t is wide delivery and smart playmaking, Eze can cross and go infield equally well, even if he isn’t a traditional winger.

Love Eze. But in this formation with Ange's tactic it feels like it would be a waste.

Him operating centrally next to Maddison... now that could be sexy.

He was a top level player, a top level inside forward who massively relied on his pace, now he's 31 and obviously isn't as fast as he used to be, can he adapt at his age to playing wide again? Time will tell, but early signs are not encouraging. Usually when talented wide players age and slow down, they're moved to the middle to get the most out of them, now we're seeing the opposite happening with Son, and I'm not sure he'll benefit from that.
He's an utterly obsessed and dedicated individual who's said he was playing in pain last season and it affected his running and ability to carry the ball. We have to wait and see if he's back to his previous athletic levels this season. Personally, I don't see why not. The worry is more in his stylistic fit in the system as he hasn't really been a winger who takes on fullbacks for a while.

How often do you see players returning to their atheltic peak at 31? I think you might be forgetting just how rapid he used to be, we haven't seen anything close to this from him:

Plenty of Olympic sprinters win golds at 31, 32, etc. It's all about dedication and application when you're in your 30s. Also, having luck with serious injuries. Son's been pretty lucky through his career in that respect. There was really no other explanation from his performance levels at the back end of his golden boot season to last year other than injury.

Worth noting as well as u21s, club-trained players are exempt from this rule so we could loan out Tanganga, Austin and Lyons-Foster and still loan out 7 other over 21s if we wanted
Rodon going to Leeds this week on loan for the season so that’s one less to bother about.
Lyons Foster is 23 in december . What are we achieving by keeping him I don’t know.
Philips has just pushed him further down the list.
