Size don't mean nothing... In fact smaller guys are more prolific scorers than your big beasts.... Aguero, Salah, Linekar, Henry, Allen, even Son etc, etc, are 20 plus per season, Vlahovic got 13 last season, Ferguson... Just headers, I was merely saying Orban has the potential to score goals.... Haaland and Drogba were the exception rather than the rule for a big centre forward... They were/ are special... My point was that for less than 30m...we can get a guy who has the potential to bang in 20 plus per season for what is today, very little money and he would fit the Ange system beautifully. Your points though are good on that he may have to adapt a bit which is true, I just think we couldn't get better for the money with a the inflated prices at the moment.... But let's just hope and pray that whoever we buy is an Ange choice and not just an ENIC way out.
Height I don’t think is a big deal, but you definitely need real core strength and strong legs and hips in the premier league. Really not convinced by Orban in that regard, has he really got enough presence to withstand pressure back to goal and on the turn? not convinced he does and don’t think it’s something that just comes with time. He’s 21, how much more development on the physical side can you expect. if he had elite pace I could see the appeal but it looks like pace is just okay compared to other PL players.

30 mil seems like a massive massive risk to me. Think there’s smarter ways to spend that money

I guess you didn't watch the Barca game?

Until we subbed off players for kids and the rest of the team ran out of gas, Barca were never scoring 4 goals.

Even then 3 of the goals came from Reguillon and Dier. neither of them will play much or at all for this this team.

I take you point that we might be open to the counter but not because of the example you gave.
It all comes from last season table goals conceded.

OK Reg and Dier won't play, who will play? Neither Davies or Sanchez are world beaters, haven't seen VDV so have no opinion about him.

Saldado, gio, tanguy, all these were meant to be ballers, at the top of their game, it’s not our fault they failed. Perhaps the scouting. We have a history of decent level signings and prospects flopping. Bale was a good punt, but they clearly don’t often worn out. It’s not exclusive to us though. Every club is riddled with similar stories.

Would you rather one £120m player on £400k p/w, or three £40m players?

Personally because of the low success rate I would prefer more, hoping one works out.
The problem with the “three at £40m each” plan right now is our already huge squad. Otherwise, I’d be right on board with you.

For the argument of low success rates, yes, our largest signings haven’t really worked out, but we are only getting these players because the really top clubs don’t want them, yet we are still paying a premium.

Spending nine figures is always going to be a risk, but it can be calculated. Rice and Bellingham being examples of almost guaranteed quality. Enzo Fernandez being a huge punt on a player who has had a decent season or so.

Have you seen him play? Core strength he has and super speed and obviously an eye for goal... His last hat trick shows, 1 header, 1 left foot strike, 1 right foot strike... Look how he got into the positions to score the goals, then tell me he's not got core strength

Some bullshit numbers, expected more of a clearout

True, but that's the problem with issuing squad numbers for the season almost 3 weeks before transfer market closes - and we can't issue temporary numbers as anyone buying the shirts in next 3 weeks would rightly complain if he shirt they buy doesn't have the 'final correct' number on.

Looking at the list I'd suggest only Lloris and Ndombele are almost certainly not going to be in the final squad - and those 2 numbers could be re-allocated.

But after that its not clear cut which players will not be here and numbers can be re-allocated - players such as Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Sanchez, Gil, etc.

And I'm not sure who will be our major RB - Emerson or Porro, so do we piss off one of them by giving them the vacant no 2 shirt ?

I'm guessing that next summer there will be a more major clearout of short numbers, arising from transfers out this window, next January and next summer.

Ange continues to impress with his pronouncements....I like the philosophy of a manager only bringing in personnel who suit his system rather than the stumping up ridiculous amounts of cash for bone idle Prima Donna's, it reeks of common sense.

Very much so common sense, but I did note this line from him:

"you don't need to always spend at that top end"

While you don't always need to - fuck the Chavs and their strategy as an aside - you do or at least might need to some of the time. The big question mark now that Levy has gotten a manager in, who speaks common sense and isn't banging on his door to spend, spend, spend.....has Levy learned anything?

Has he learned after not backing Poch at the right time? Common sense is all fine and good, but if we build towards something this season, and Ange knocks on Levy's door next summer and tells that there's this one player, or two players, beyond what we normally spend that would transform the team, will he listen?

Probably the same as you just going by clips. They are obviously just the highlights of his season. Most of these compilations look great for every player. If I remember correctly that hat trick doesn’t show much in terms of core strength. Just a tap in following in, a header from close in unmarked, third goal was a good goal but it doesn’t show much in how that would transfer to the premier league. I will say he looks to have decent balance and strikes it well of either foot. 30 mil is a massive risk.

Let's just see mate... I hope we will buy him and risk it.... The main thing is 3 points today at Brentford... I'm optimistic at the moment coz at keast we going to be playing decent football.... Baby steps😁
