Or...or...just really smart savvy actual football people.

The investigation has been going on since last summer when 5 warrant notices were served for:

  • False accounting against president of the board of directors at Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, his son Edoardo De Laurentiis and Aurelio’s wife Jacqueline Baudit, the latter two as vice presidents of the board.
  • Andrea Chiavelli was accused of false accounting, as managing director of the board of directors of the Napoli.
  • The same crime, false accounting, is also charged by the investigators against Valentina De Laurentiis , daughter of Aurelio, as managing director of the board of directors of the Partenopei.
  • Finally, for the crime of fraudulent declaration, only the chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis is under investigation (as legal representative of the company)

Could be both…

They definitely have smart football operators when you see who they have signed. You don’t put together a squad like that by accident.

The Osimhen deal is also under investigation and the Italian league is chocka with corruption

Re Players going from Napoli to Lille as part payment (19.8m ..... but their worth ?):

Osimhen's price was $71.246 million plus $10 million in bonuses. Payment in 5 years. In the operation, 4 Napoli members (including 3 Primavera) had moved to Lille with these evaluations:

  • Orestis Karnezis: 4.8 mln
  • Ciro Palmieri: 7 million
  • Claudio Manzi: 4 mln
  • Luigi Liguori: 4 mln
Karnezis made 3 appearances in two years at Lille, quitting football in June; the 3 boys from the youth sector of Napoli in Lille have not played even 1 ': Liguori today is in Eccellenza (Casoria), Manzi at Turris (Serie C) and Palmieri at Nola (Amateurs).

This is why we might not spend much in the summer so any new manager could be pretty fucked without some external investment.

Many clubs have significantly increased transfer debt in the past few years. For example, Tottenham have grown to £252m, ahead of Woolwich £188m and Manchester United £182m (up to £307m in their Q1 2022/23 accounts).

Most player transfer fees are agreed to be paid over length of player contracts (typically 5 years), so 252m probably means 50m paid each year for 5 years - less of course debtors over 5 years.

So its a big but not huge number.

As far as I remember, there was some suggestions that due to our significant liabilities tied to the stadium the club had to maintain a certain level of cash. I'm not doubting the number being reported but it is very likely that much of that won't/can't be touched for various reasons.

I'm a little fearful of what we'll actually be willing to spend this summer given that we've already spent a fair amount, and/or have yet to actually convert some of these loans fully into purchases.

I wouldn't be surprised even a little bit if we have a sell before we can buy situation coming up.

With most bonds etc there might be a requirement to have say 3 months or 6 months interest to be kept in a separate bank account (no capital repayment until bond matures).

But with interest costs of about 25m pa, the amount needing to be kept in bank account will be small.

It's a fair point......

When you think back to the Porro deal; most of the dicking about was over payment terms (including foregoing some of our Edwards % to get them set up our way) so we're not gonna turn round and pay it all in one whack a 4 months later.

If were just gonna pay a flat 45m in one hit we'd have just hit the release clause and walked away.

EDIT:

Looks like Kulu is an easy payment plan too. 👍

Fuck it; let's get the credit card out and go shoppin'! :D

Of course. But you can’t look at that number in isolation. You need to look at it alongside what other clubs owe and our figure is huge in comparison. Man U owe £300 million.

Plus of course the players we want to sell seem to not attract huge fees.

My hope is that we can save a fair bit on wages. Lloris gone, hopefully Perisic gone, Sanchez, Dier(?). Probably saved a few quid on Doherty's wages too. Whoever replaces Conte will be lucky to get his £15m salary.

That’s a big IF on all those players. I could see Lloris and Spurs mutually terminating possibly but Dier, Sanchez, and Perisic are all here through to 2024 unless we find reasonable offer, which I doubt. I think I saw something a little while ago about a possible Dier extension so I’d rule that out.

The bigger issues for me would be offloading Winks, Ndombele, Lo Celso, and maybe even Gil if we don’t intend to use them at all. This is why outgoings are a worry for me. Hell, we had to offload Doherty just because we had too many loans.

Robin Koch at Leeds is our latest linked signing I guess.

26 years old. Contract until 2024, right footed centreback but comfortable playing on the left.
Mad. He's actually having his best season with Leeds, been very good since Christmas, but this would be unambitious even by our standards. If we cleaned house, (sell Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon) and brought in 3 CB's.. Koch wouldn't be a terrible shout as the third and least likely to play of those. But he's a lower-mid table, injury prone player. Pascal Struijk is probably the Leeds cb/fb I'd be most interested in, as a backup level lcb in a three. Anyway, probably just an agent trying to kickstart a move for him to a better placed side.

Agree lots of things to consider - I was responding to a post saying our spend would be very restricted due to the amounts owed.

Other positive things to add to your list is CL prize money (I think circa £60m which we didn't have in summer 2022), larger crowds for CL matches v Conference matches (maybe another £20m), more TV revenues from CL, more sponsors this year than last year, more non football events this year (6 Beyonce events this year more than all events last year) than last year, other commercial income whether more skywalks, conferences & exhibitions etc. From all that, it wouldn't surprise me if revenues to June 2023 weren't £550m+ versus £443m in year to June 2022.

So whilst we may need to pay off some of the creditors in summer 2023 we will be starting from a much better cash flow position that last summer.

You're doing it wrong; you should be ridiculing our revenue streams.
