Kane will surely be a big loss, no denying that, however a change in system might be what we need, and his departure, although painful, could be a blessing in disguise.

If we could form a lineup like this with the Kane money I wouldn't call it bad business in the slightest:

Raya (20M)

Pedro Porro - Romero - Laporte (25M) - Udogie
Skipp - Bissouma
Richarlison - Kulusevski - Marcus Thuram (0)
Jonathan David (40M)

Forster
Spence
Rodon
Davies
Reguilon
Bentancur
Sarr
Gil
Alex Scott
Danjuma (or a replacement like him)

The numbers in brackets are the estimated costs. The old guard (Hugo, Sanchez, Dier, Kane, Son, Hojbjerg) all gone. It could be a long, but interesting process.
You're right that it's time to change. However, I'm not so sure on the suggested replacements, does that take us a step above what Brighton currently have?

Thuram's record in a weaker league is 10, 8, 3, 12 which isn't inspiring. Laporte also hasn't impressed me, seems like a deluxe Lenglet.

We need someone in the style of a Pedro Neto, Alexis MacAllister, Mitoma or Gabriel Martinelli 🤮.

For me it would be:

Raya
Porro Romero KMJ* Udogie
Skipp Bissouma MacAllister
Kulu David(?) Mitoma

*We're unlikely to get him so I guess we'll need to do some real scouting (shock horror). Maybe take a punt on several less high profile players like Roger Ibanez, Kilman, St Juste (Sporting).

Alex Scott can be that CAM, and we also have Gil to come back again. That leaves 2 more signings needed. I think Thuram is a no-brainer this window. He's a free transfer, and can play both as a LW and a striker. He has very high energy and is good at pressing. Has scored 12 goals this season as well. Then as a striker the dream for me would be Kolo Muani, however it might be hard to take him since Liverpool also seem to like him. Kolo Muani can play all 3 positions (which will come in handy in the other point) and is extremely technical. Jo David (who I've listed in the line-up) is also an extremely good player. Then you have options like Vlahovic etc. who are more on the mould of Kane, although I wouldn't be as much in favour of signing that kind of striker, simply because we can't replace Kane like for like, it's impossible since there's no one better than him.

I don't see a future for Sonny, simply because he doesn't have it in his legs to press anymore. Love him, but I think it was time to part ways. It's a big mystery if anyone would take him though, although his wages are very low for a player of his reputation.

Richy is decent as a RW, and he can swap positions with the other 3, for example he can go as a shadow striker in some scenarios while Kulusevski goes to the RW, or he can swap with Kolo Muani and go forward while KM goes as a LW etc.

I like Thurman - but its misleading to say he's a free transfer (its true he will be out of contract) nut whichever club he goes to will need to pay him a mega signing on fee, agent will demand a huge fee etc No idea about total money but it might well be a total cost of £20m - £40m plus of course top wages .......... so signing him certainly hits the budget.

20M signing on fee is outrageous, not even Messi got that much from PSG. Normally sign on fees are around 4-6M. When it comes to wages, the board should realise that they can't offer low wages anymore if they want to attract top talent (the only player they broke the wage structure for is Ndombele).

Sonny didn't score that many for Leverkusen or HSV neither, so I don't pay that much attention to the numbers. Mitoma would be impossible to get, although he's as good of a Son replacement as you can get. I think Laporte is underrated. He's 28 and has been one of the best CBs in the league for years, without getting the recognition.

Agree normal signing on fees are significant but in the low millions

When a player is 'free' (ie no transfer fee payable to club as out of contract) and particularly if the player agent wants a large payout from the club signing the 'free transfer' that's when a combination of huge agent fees (usually as the clubs signing the 'free transfer' are played off against each other with one criteria being who pays the agent the biggest fee) huge sign on fees plus excessive wages to the player.

That's when you get very large costs.

Agree on Laporte, can play LCB/LB. He would be a good signing for us alongside another good CB.

How many of those are club/association trained? What does your bench/rotation options look like as a result? Then how many ins and outs is that in one window? That's the problem with dreaming up fantasy squads...

1 Players on loan we likely want to move on (both to recover some £'s for transfer fees and free up wages, probably we are paying part even on loan) - Lo Celso, Reguilion N'Dombele, Winks and Rodon (5)

2 Players on loan (do we want to re-integrate into the squad post Conte) - Gil, Spence

3 Players likely to leave anyway - Moura (contract ends), Lenglet (loan ends) , Danjuma (loan ends)

4. Recruitment (5 players in ) :
- No 1 GK (Replace and sort out Lloris who has has 12 months to go on contract)
- 2 x CB's (one to replace Lenglet, one to upgrade on Sanchez or Tanganga who needs a loan for experience)
- Alternate AM for Kulusevski to add creativity (preferably AM/CM allowing us to play 3 CM's sometimes) (he replaces Danjuma in this season's squad). Not sure Gil is robust enough
- Alternate striker, maybe replacement for Son (replaces Moura in this seasons squad)

We are short on HG players - preferably one or two of incoming players need to be HG (eg Raya and Maddison)

5. New LWB (upgrade on both Sessegnon and/or Perisic) in addition to Destiny Udoggie). If we cannot Davies might need to be cover for LWB with RWB's also able to cover LWB

6 We will have 3 RWB's Porro plus Royal, & Spence - Who to move on ?

A lot to do but if we could do this, the squad would be far better quality and depth
I applaud this post for thoroughness and creativity.

I have no idea what will happen but certainly we at least need a new LCB and Dier to be moved to a sub role.

I feel very comfortable with all of: Udogie, Porro, Spence, Skipp, Sarr, Bentancur, Bissouma, Romero, Kulusevski, Gil, Richarlison, Danjuma, and hope they can be retained and built around.

The following players ought to be moved on: Sanchez, Tanganga, Dier, PEH, Son.

There is so much work to be done turning over the squad though- it's going to take at least 3 windows to move them all, imo.

Ndicka and Bella-Kotchap would be a fantastic pair of signings for us I think. Other more attractive signings are probably out of reach.

Our problem is going to be satisfying the requirement for home grown and club trained players. We only have Tangaga, Kane, Skipp and Winks. Assumption is Winks is gone come summer and, Kane is almost certainly off to United. Any new coach surely has to use Tanganga.

Players that could leave this summer:
Lloris
Tanganga
Sanchez
Dier
Rodon
Lenglet (going anyway)
Winks
Tanguy
Lo Celso
Hojberg
Gil? (happy for him to stay or another loan)
Lucas
Danjuma (going anyway unless new coach plays him in the last 10)
Son
Kane

15 total. No chance they all happen.

Needed if they all go:
GK
x2CB
LWB/LB
CM (creative)
LWF
RWF
ST

This squad rebuild has only just got started really.

GK yes
2 CB's yes
AM yes
RWF Yes
ST if Kane fucks off yes

Depending on who comes in we already have LB covered (Reguilon is still a Spurs player) Danjuma who I think will stay, Son and Rich can cover LW.
