So spend £40million on a slow plodder because of what he did for 2 months who now spends most of his time on his arse, so much so Dav has to help him up??

In fairness, Napoli have a few quality players up front unlike say Juve or indeed us.
Read my previous reply again before jumping to conclusions, pal. You'll find it kinda indicates I'm pretty much on the fence as far as Kulu is concerned

Diaby is one of the few players that would be a straight upgrade on Kulusevski. Can play in both counter attacking and possession systems and is extremely quick, as well as an excellent technical dribbler. He can also finish. Wish we were linked with him. He reminds me of a much younger, left footed Sadio Mane

Doc Doc Why are we so bad from passing it out from the back and beating our press? Is it poor coaching or the players?

For example, with Romero Dier Lenglet... there's an argument that all 3 should be decent passers. Romero is sharp, Dier has experience at CM, while Lenglet's passing is his only asset.
And yet when we're pressed we look like deer in the headlights? Is it mostly Lloris' fault?

Deuterz Deuterz Who can we realistically buy this summer to build a progressive footballing team? Assume that we'll have a manger that matches this ( ie Poch, Nagelsmann, Enrique, Kompany)

Ah, loads of reasons I guess. Dier is a pretty clunky passer and not all that fluid in his movement with ball. Perisic is terrible at playing from deep, poor at receiving the ball deep and playing through the press. Our midfielders are average at receiving the ball, Skipp doesn't show for it half enough and is safe but not expansive, Bentancur is an overrated passer/reciever, Hojbjerg is an infuriating player who rotates between 8/10, 6/10 and not looking like a pro footballer. Lloris one of the worse ball playing gk's in the league. Us playing with 2 midfielders doesn't help. The fact we try to do lots of 2/3 pass moves to launch quick-fire attack. Coaching, players, lots of things.

It'll probably take more than a season. Pochettino's first season was OK but had big dips. I do think we're better now than we were then but the team has been set up to play regressive football for years, so reversing that and going the opposite way will take time.

Say we go 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, pair up Bissouma/Bentancur then someone in the category of Olmo or Maddison would be a nice start. I'd also love Leeds to go down so we could have a shot at Gnoto, probably not ready to start yet but he's a livewire.

Beyond that a David Raya, i.e a keeper comfortable with a ball at his feet, would be ideal. We also badly need a partner for Romero. Personally I'm a big fan of Joachim Anderson but I get that some view him as a bit Dier esque.

Think CB is the biggest '?' as the top-tier talent (Gvardiol, Bastoni) isn't available to us. The posters who watch more European football are prob a bigger help there as they'll know more of the prospects. I know we were linked to Schuurs but have not watched him play at all tbh.

I also heard that Barca were maybe looking to sell Raphinha, which might be total bullshit but I'd love us to throw our hat in the ring for him .. but I don't think we will sign a right winger and expect us to seal Kulu & potentially bring back Gil.

Lack of movement ahead of them and players being uncomfortable in the press and under pressure, we were much better at playing out when we have Bentancur because the players were comfortable giving him the ball as he can play in tight areas, Hojbjerg and Skipp cannot.

Reading some of the tripe some people post, you could be excused for thinking we need to spend 500 million pounds and to replace the whole squad.

Yes, we need new players and to get the next managerial appointment right because that's what really matters, but strike a light.

You're nearly as funny (or is that deluded?) as LeParisien LeParisien

We need a central midfielder that is comfortable taking it under pressure and doesn’t hide when things aren’t going right. That makes our back 3 when passing out delay and gives teams that extra second to get at them.
Having a Jorginho,Kovatic or Gundogan type player that can always take the ball and make everything seem calm when it’s frantic around them. We don’t have that.

Nobody in here is saying anything of the sort. 4-5 players are needed, probably 200m or so spending (on players who actually work out) to get us to that level where we're consistently playing good, progressive football.

This is absolutely the rational take, it's what Ten Haag spent at Utd (& they still have some way to go) and, with inflation, around what Klopp invested in a single window. Since then the league has only got more and more competitive.

If you're expecting a new, progressive manager to be OK with Lloris continuing in goal, Dier at CB, Hojbjerg in midfield and no pace or excitement on the wings bar an ageing, out of form Son then you're in for a shock.

Oh and also it's shit that Grealish finally settled in at City and that Pep values him so much now because I still held out hope that he wouldn't quite settle in to Pep-ball and we'd have a shot. He screams Spurs player to me.

Cheers, interesting

Perisic really is turning into one of the biggest disappointments of our last window.

Hope Raya and a new CB go some way to fixing this.

There’s a young centre back at Atalanta called Giorgio Scalvini who’s been brilliant every time I’ve seen him. Composed on the ball and reads the game well, sonny’s pal at Napoli is the best defender in Serie A and can also comfortable under pressure but you’d imagine the big guns are coming for him.

Yeah, Kim Min-Jae is gonna be a top target for every top European team I imagine ... affordable release clause and fantastic season = lots of competition. Not even worth wasting time on it tbh, I imagine he'd rather stay at title winning Napoli than move here.

Scalvini is outrageous.. seen him play dm vs (I think) Milan, such a talented and versatile player. Obviously a bit light rn but he's 6-4 .. he could become really great. Reminds me of John Stones a bit.
