In the Enic thread maybe but not the cunting transfer thread! Every cunting day!
I think there are still a few CB's in play :

VdV
Tapsoba
Tosin (conveniently HG)
Nelsson. (at Galatasaray where we are maybe selling Suarez - 'give us a good deal on Nelsson and we'll do same on Suarez)

Lenglet.

Hopefully we get first two in at an acceptable price but if necessary we have alternatives available. Lenglet last option but unlikely we buy imo as high wages, not a big upgrade for us and age against him.

Then Hojbjerg seems likely to go so we need to probably pay another 10m/20m on top of his incoming fee to get a better replacement.

Only question is how many get on the plane - the more the better but even one CB will be fine paired with Romero plus Dier and Dorrington to play a part ?
Hojbjerg out, AmRabat in. Good swap. Also Daichi Kamala offered to us on a free, definite yes esp with Ange’s Japanese links. Very good player.

Hoping that the backlash from ticket price increase gives Levy the necessary encouragement to buy both Van de Ven and Tapsoba. He might feel the need to justify the ticket increase with strong spending.

Nice to think that, but I fear he's going back to form on the transfers.

I'm good with that in theory. It's just the faith in our recruitment that's taken a battering.

That Bale spend wasn't as bad as is often made out. We should have got more out of Capoue, who was much better than some of the wankers we ended up with in midfield. cCould have sold Eriksen alone in his pomp and recovered a chunk of that money. As it was we still ended up +4m on those deals, plus whatever Lamela knocked the Gil deal, even though there was some real shonky players in that bunch.
A highly controversial opinion, but one I actually agree with.

That Bale window was actually far better than some of our recent windows for example. There appeared to be a clear plan in place and we had first choice targets that the club (Baldini, who got an unfairly raw deal I felt) went out and got.

Injuries wrecking the squad, and AVB losing the plot, contributed massively to the shit show that unfolded that season, but I believe the transfer business done was actually very underrated…

It is amazing how nobody is in for lenglet other than us apparently. Tells you a lot about the situation. Also would it be a bad idea to think about selling romero and going for both defenders we are in talks with because we all know romero is going to miss about 10 games with suspensions and injuries. Sure we would get 40-45 million for him if we sold him. He is just so annoying to watch and his attitude is dog shit

Personally, I think that would be a misstep.

I'd like to think that the change to aggressive attacking football will allow him to enjoy playing here and develop further.

I’m not sure we are really in for him other than him being an option should all our other defensive targets not materialise. All the noise is coming from one paper in Spain and nowhere else. I would be surprised if we revisited him, especially if we push through VDV this week. I’m more concerned about any links to maguire resurfacing!

does hojberg need replacing? only domestic football next year. sarr probably a better fit than him anyway in a system that requires midfield to play a bit. so he would of been 5th choice, instead of him being 5th its skipp...might as well invest that money into the backline. unlikely we will get a CM whos going to get in front of bissouma, bent or maddison for 40m
Also Devine looks like he may be physically ready aswell as possible return of Ndombele(who appears to maybe having a role this season). We definitely have enough bodies in midfield.

Maddison/Ndombele...................Bentancur/Sarr
Bissouma/Skipp

and Devine as another option unless a loan is a preferred option.

overall I think our midfield is pretty healthy for this season

Devine plays more in the Kulusevski role for England.

yea if devine or ndombele can be called on defo dont need anymore even if PEH goes. far better off putting that money into the backline

This one is the same as the Raya/Vicario situation. Some at the top end preferring VDV, others Tapsoba But pretty much everyone unanimous that either would be a solid signing and a good fit for how we are looking to play moving forward. I've not heard anything in the last 24 hours or so, so I don't know how close it is, but we were 100% talking to Tapsoba's people over the weekend as well. I was told quite matter of factly that we wouldn't be getting both, and we were looking at either/or plus a homegrown option with one eye on the future, so lets see how it pans out. If we've found a different HG option for elsewhere perhaps Tapsoba also now is possible. My guy was convinced it wouldn't be both though.
