I also feel we should be targetting a wide forward should Kane leave and trust Richi (failing that Son) to play up top.
Newcastle are reporteldy looking to sell Saint Maximin and I am honestly a little bit interested in that deal.

He's certainly creative enough and would be a bit of an x factor out on the left. But the question is if he has the workrate off the ball to function in a Ange team.

We used to have a strong Argentinian group in the squad under Poch when we had Lamela, GLC, Gazza and Foyth around. Hugo also hung out with them I believe since he is a Spanish speaker.

In a way I can understand it. They've moved halfway across the world so of course they are going to hang with people from the same culture if possible.
Yeah, I did think to myself after writing that if I were working abroad and the only English in the office then I'd probably be pretty excited to spot another gammon joining the crew tbf...

They just seem much more desperate to be attracting more of their countrymen to where they are than others, never see Kulusevski begging other Swedes to come here for example.

Don't think I'd lose any sleep if they weren't, though it would mean we need to bring in 3 cbs as opposed to the speculated 2...

Honestly think Romero would be a much happier camper if GLC is kept around, and more likely to strop and phone it in if he isn't. I don't want to stereotype, but obviously I will, the Argentine's seem to be weirdly co-dependant from the snippets you see/read.
I'm not sure Cuti & GLC spending time together is that weird.

We only signed Ardiles on the condition Ricky Villa was part of the package, and the British press thought he was a thug because Menotti had used him as a sub to challenge Brazil physically in a brutally aggressive World Cup match.

When we signed Luka Modric, his good friend Corluka joined too.

We all saw the Brazilian contingent pigeoning merrily away on social media last season. Moura, Richarlison & Emerson were clearly buddies within the wider squad.

I'm sure there are plenty of other examples in our history, and that of other clubs too.

Gallagher at Palace reminded me more of Maddison to be fair. Now, what he did at Chelsea I don’t know because I didn’t see him play a single time. Maybe he didn’t play much there last year?

Based on his Palace performances though I liked what I saw

He definitely shares more similar traits with Maddison than PEH.

The thing I really like about him is his work rate and tenacity in the tackle. He is very good at winning the ball back, which if he were to play for us in an Ange press means he will be creating turnovers in the middle and higher up the pitch.

These comparison stats are per 90 mins EDIT: from the 2021/22 season.

I think that Dejan has it easier since England and Sweden are definitely closer to each other culturally than England and any South American country. And Swedes learn English from age 8 in school so the language barrier is probably nowhere near as hard.

In Dejan's case he also moved to Italy at 15-16 and handled that well enough. So he's done it all before. And is probably just as comfortable in our new Italian connected clique with Vicario, Udogie, Perisic and Bentancur.

Italians don't usually move outside of their own borders either for football. But Vicario and Udogie speaking fluent English should help with that.

I'm not saying that that is weird, it'd be more conspicuous if they didn't hang out, but the Argies seem to take it to another level.

Like they had GLC parading around post game with the World Cup even though he wasn't in the squad. Every time I see a quote from Emi Martinez it seems to be begging another Argentinian to join him at Villa...

It's definitely not a totally bizarre phenomenon, they just seem a bit extra with it compared to the others.

Maybe he does not like the way GLC is perceiving how he is being treated?
Maybe he misses the continent?
Deffo Taps and VDV if he goes, which will please many.
I’m pretty sure he isn’t bothered by Lo Celso’s situation. They’re all big boys that have their own lives and careers.
He might but he has never said it.
I think for us to move forward we need those two and Romero. We need to start acting like a big club. The CB position has been neglected for years now but if we fix that then the rest will fall into place. We have hopefully sorted the keeper issue but CB is by far the most important one to get right.

Romero is a World Cup winner.

He's a very confident, borderline arrogant, player.

I think he's a top class CB, with a reckless streak that he needs to learn to control. And there were suggestions he wasn't paying much attention to Mason's instructions to get back quickly after a forward foray in a couple of matches last season. Ange would have absolutely none of that.

Romero is under contract, but that doesn't mean his agent couldn't be making noises about eg Cuti wanting to play CL football.

Also, it's clear Paratici is still operating in the shadows for us, nominally as a consultant. His Juve connections mean that if we are trying to set up a deal in principle for a new striker if Kane is sold overseas, then Vlahovic is likely near the top of the list.

We would doubtless prefer a cash deal for Vlahovic. It's also possible Juve want Romero rather than cash.

The only one of our Argies who didn't seem to be totally Argie pilled was Gazza. Who was the most English Argentinian ever what with him taking vacations to Wales and the Scottish highlands with his pet beagle.

Definitely wouldn’t mind Connor Gallagher as Hojbjerg’s replacement. I’ve said earlier in the summer that I wanted Maxence Caqueret to replace him, but Gallagher is actually pretty similar in profile to him. Caqueret is more technical and agile though, whereas Gallagher has much more of an engine. I feel like Gallagher has the potential to even play as Ange’s lone 6, as well as in a double pivot if needed.

Just hope that they don’t pay anything over 40 million
