"What our squad's going to look like may take a little while, until the season starts" Quote from Ange's first press conference. I didn't pay much attention to it, but now wonder if he was referring to centre backs, as that's surely the position he will want strenghened the most. So maybe he knew something we don't, and was hinting at that - expect to wait to land CBs.

I am frustrated because as someone who has a strong background in management, process, procedure and strategising I can clearly see the failings that are happening and like I’ve said it boils down to either poor planning, poor advise or good advise not being listened to - and it’s rife in the business world and sadly at Spurs
Except you’ve no insight as to what processes they’re following at Spurs or how they may have changed from pre- to post-Parataci.

A number of top employees have 6 month or even 12 month notice periods

And sometimes it can be more complicated such as '6 months unless next employer is a top 4 club in PL and in which case its 12 months' etc.

So if Munn thinks he is free to join Spurs in x months but City decide otherwise, then City may have the legal ability to stop Munn joining Spurs.
I think the point is that we should have known about this when we hired him and not be finding out what appears to be the last minute. If that's the case, that's pretty amateurish on our part.

You appear to be incapable of understanding the real world.

And that lack of understanding means you try to set unrealistic goals for the club to achieve and that is why you get frustrated.

My initial post of number of incoming players is impossible not to understand - the message is very clear Spurs are bringing in players to fill SOME of their most needed positions and are doing it at a similar rate to competing clubs including Liverpool and ManU

Sure I'd love to have one or two CB's in - but I have the knowledge/experience of real world constraints and can relate that to Spurs and don't get frustrated. And as I said earlier - its not having that knowledge/experience which means you cannot appreciate the issues, set unrealistic expectations and get frustrated.
I think you over estimate your own experience and level of knowledge, I can tell by conversing with you that you have probably only been a member of a team in mergers and acquisitions, a small cog easily replaced. I’ve seen this before and we might work in similar fields, you’ve met some of the big boys and got involved in a few deals at a lowish level and therefore fee you have this superior knowledge.

I can tell though that you know a little bit more than the average bloke on the street, but deep down you don’t really know a lot.

It’s great you are relaxed about the CB situation, you probably don’t need to be on here debating with me about it, you can relax and enjoy your evening. I will worry though because I feel it is a problem.

I don't know what your idea is of a top class CB, we need to get the right CB.

Basing our behaviour of previous windows is pointless, there's 0 consistent pattern with our recruitment because we've chopped and changed management/strategies, just gotta trust the club on this one and what we've seen so far in this window.
Yes I agree the only thing we are consistent at is being inconsistent.

Of course it will definitely be different this time around, I’ve always said “if the same thing happened the first 15 times then the 16th time will definitely be different” wise words I am sure you will agree

Again I don’t care, we needed CB’s, creativity and a keeper this summer and we’ve done 2 out of the 3 - and we have form for stopping at this juncture.

It’s pointless comparing us to City - they could play Dier at CB and still win the league. Woolwich will soon have rice tied up - it’s not like they are trying to decide between him and Lanzini.

The fact we had 3 major areas of need just highlights our past failings in the market - this was the summer to get it right, strengthen early, get a good pre season and hopefully hit the ground running and do what the gooners did last year - ride the crest of the momentum wave. Instead we’re all fucked off because we’ve seen this movie before
What momentum wave? We finished 8th and we're in rebuild mode.

And yeah, we really messed up addressing only 2 of our 3 needs with almost 2 months of the transfer window to go.

You would be in a very small minority. If we got him in on Day One of the window and not as a potential last resort then 99% of this board would have gone bananas.
Fair enough, personally I thought he was our best defender last season - which admittedly is not saying much.

Was it the Bournemouth game he went off injured and Sanchez came in and got abused by our own fans? The difference in performance was night and day, a position we can upgrade in for £10m ish would have been good business

Seriously, mate, do you really think Ange is going to sacrifice the fitness and match sharpness of the players he is settling on, just to give minutes to players he'll want to see gone?

I like most of your posts, but this is knee-jerk. And similar knee-jerk posts are made about transfers, which is why some of us are dismissive of them.

I think we should all take a deep breath, relax, and let the window and preseason play out and not get too worked up about it. Come mid-season we can evaluate whether we fucked up the window or if we made the right moves.
Mate,I’m just annoyed at who’s on the plane. I’d rather the ones that I never want to see in a Tottenham strip ever again wasn’t there. It’s a selfish comment 🤣🤣

That’s not always how things work.
They might want to bring in a replacement before selling him. They might be looking for someone else to get involved and push up the fee. The agent or player might be doing the same. They might want to sell a different player to raise money or keep him regardless of our offer.
Yeah, that’s when you move to plan B. Ange has already said it not about the right player, it’s the right player profile. Again it comes back to preparation

He just said what any manager in his position would say. WTF would he say anything else?

Again, it was his first press conference. He'd seen some of the players train for a week and some not train at all. It'd be silly to imply he knew what his squad would look like sooner.

I'll never understand why some people think managers are using press conferences to send out coded messages, particularly about transfers. They aren't obligated to give any information away, there's no reason to think they would.

That's moot cos they clearly weren't high enough on our list for the club to pursue them (specifically) with urgency..... The window is 2 weeks deep; it's not bloody deadline day!

Not really.

Lenglet & (your eg) Killman for the season ahead and you'd fine? Again; I'm calling bullshit.
You can call who you like mush, but Tarkowski/ Coady/Keane outperformed our mob last season - Kilman and Lenglet are an upgrade on Sanchez and Dier - no mistake. Furthermore, both are Prem experienced.

Project all you want though

People are still Conte'd.

In the spirit of strategy and planning....

How far down the list is it fitting to stoop to by week 2 of the window? #5? #10? Presumably option Z (aka #26) is 10.59 on deadline day? ... Is it linear scale? ...When should a club shit themselves?

What number is Max Killman on your list?
