What do you expect if he is not performing on the pitch? Of course there is no need for insults, but if he is struggling to control simple passes, not assisting, or not scoring then he will be criticized. Yesterday someone who went to the training session in Perth said Rich couldn't hit a barn door and today in the match it was the same. This is a continuation from his poor form last season.

The club paid a lot of money and he is on a massive salary. Unfortunately that builds pressure and expectations.

I don't think I implied I expect anything...

Are some posters here still so sure that we should rip off Perišić's contract and set him free? Just because he played 2 seasons as a wingback under Conte doesn't mean that he forget how to play on left wing which is his natural position.
He'll get plenty of game time this season. I reckon he'll get rotated quite a lot with Soliman. I also noted that he was popping up on the right a few times last night.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing the best of Perisic this season.

We are locked with so many centrebacks. Personally I‘d even sell Romero, he is more concerned wwith Argentina or getting booked. Tapsoba, Nelson , VDV and Tosin all in. How much would that cost?
£40m + £15 m (inc Sanchez) + £30 m+ &15m so £100m . Sell all our other centrebacks..Romero would go for about £45m, Rodon for about £10m, Dier for say £15m alone.It could be dome.

That would be the main dissapointment of VDV at LCB for me...... Romero needs a mentor.
A steadying influence would definitely be of benefit to Romero, but who would that be?

VDV could be an ideal partner to him, purely because of his recovery pace. It would allow Romero to make aggressive forays, with a pacey partner able to cover for him if required.

Ultimately, it's about the understanding that develops between them that's most important.

Thinking about it, I think we already have the ideal mentor for him in Jedinak.

Hi Aqualung, if you’re reading

Never heard or seen Phillips play. But I do like signings like this and Devine. Clearly talented and highly rated youngsters who can hopefully make it here. Low risk gambles with high reward if it works out.

One or two of them worried there might be a 2m release clause....

They're also pissed we didn't buy Raya as they have a 10% sell-on fee they hoped to be cashing in on.
