I know a few Rovers supporters. They’re a pretty decent bunch on the whole.
Apparently Phillips is the bollocks and they aren’t happy.
Which makes me happy with the signing.
Know nothing about the lad. Never seen him kick a ball. But if it’s pissing them off then I think we’re on the right track with this young man.

After watching today, I don’t understand how our transfer strategy is anything other than just bit Tapsoba and VDV and sell excess players.

We’re pretty well stocked up front and in the midfield. Udogie looks ready to play immediately. Why not just dedicate all our financial resources to getting two CBs? Doesn’t seem like it’s asking too much to dole out 70-80m there considering we‘ll have probably 7-8 outgoings.

Couldn't agree more.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game tbf, but our frailties at the back were once again on display. Really liked what I saw from Udogie, Biss, and Porro. Some of the short passing was great to watch. We will hassle any team, just can't afford to leak pissweak goals.

Friendly or not, looks like the team has bought into Angeball from the get go.

Wonder if this something that came into play as to why we walked away from Raya and went in for Phillips.

If we had have bought Raya then they wouldn't have needed to sell this young fellow.

I agreed with your initial post, it’s really hard to pick out really outstanding CB’s right now, in the PL or generally.

Maybe, to a degree, that’s always been true.

In the PL, I would say Thiago Silva is probably the best, even at his age. I also like Wesley Fofana but the boy’s really unlucky with injuries. I quite like Konate. Quite like Martinez. Obviously VVD was great but seems to have gone a bit since injury, and I liked Matip but he’s not in his prime any more.

There’s decent ones elsewhere but most have compromises.
It depends what you’re looking for doesn’t it? The new era of footballing defenders tends to bring along deficiencies in the art of being a nasty fucker.
The best I can think of in the modern era who was hard to get past but could play too were Terry and Ferdinand. Defenders who simply want to defend and get on the end of everything but lack top end ball skills tend to get derided these days.

Yes, I’m sure that Joe Lewis pays people to post on TFC because a cabal of half a dozen posters have put ownership on ‘super secret probation’ in the ‘last, last chance saloon’ to get a window right.
Or there’s a Man United fan so obsessed with Tottenham that he posts multiples times daily on their fan boards without once talking up the team he actually supports.
You have chosen to mostly remain silent and as a wise man once said: Better to remain silent…..
If you don't think the ownership of the club employ a public relations company to influence the fans across all forms of digital social media to then you are naive or stupid.
And less of the condescension George.
It doesn't suit you.

It’s the only logical explanation for some of the blinkered contrary views displayed on here from four or five continued nutcases. I suspect even the bald dwarf himself displays more self objectivity re: his leadership and decisions than Airfixx, Stevee, LeParisien etc. blind followers relentlessly trying to influence clear thinkers

It's simple for me.

Players who can play the 8s (Need 2)
- Maddison
- N'Dombele
- Lo Celso
- Devine

Players who are better in the 6 (Need 1)
- Bissouma
- Bentancur
- Skipp
- Sarr

Don't think PEH fits either role.

If we're selling Lo Celo and binning off NDombele we need serious replacements.

Might be best for Sarr to loan him out for the season.
Agree with the exception of Bentancur who I think of more as an 8

We are locked with so many centrebacks. Personally I‘d even sell Romero, he is more concerned wwith Argentina or getting booked. Tapsoba, Nelson , VDV and Tosin all in. How much would that cost?
£40m + £15 m (inc Sanchez) + £30 m+ &15m so £100m . Sell all our other centrebacks..Romero would go for about £45m, Rodon for about £10m, Dier for say £15m alone.It could be dome.
If only!!
